Yes, you're probably right. It's just that I have a really nice pair of bluetooth headphones that I like. They have a volume adjustment on them and that helps me. Plus no wires.

O well. I still Love my Fire.

Same situation here. So I have just adapted to using a good pair of wired earphones. Small tradeoff.

Which ones are you using? Do they have a volume control?

You must be rooted. It does not work otherwise because there is no way to sign in.

Yes, they are excellent. Volume control, OLED, caller I.D., call connect/disconnect and extremely comfortable. It's hard to describe, but the long piece that is the OLED display with the controls is attached to a small lanyard that rests around the neck. They were discontinued but are still listed on Sony's site:

Sony HBH-DS980

Thanks for the info. They sound nice, but I wear a hearing aid so cannot use earbud types.

I really want separate volume controls for each ear in headphones/earbuds, but I haven't found many that fit the bill. My hearing loss is in one ear only so to get a good listening experience I need to crank it up just in that ear. From what I read in some of the hearing loss forums, I'm certainly not alone, but manufacturers don't tend to make this an option, at least not in affordable earphones.

May I suggest Bose systems? They are expensive but "over the ear" design. It may work for you. They are also noise reduction, so you can actually hear more and better.

I bought a pair just a month ago and was money well spent, in my opinion.

I believe the tablet that is supposed to be released on the 19th is the ASUS Transformer Prime, a 10.1" quad-core beast.

Heres a link from today....

Those really won't do me any good. I'm actually totally deaf in one ear and wear a hearing aid in the other. My dead ear just holds the headphones in place.

But a volume would be nice to be able to make the sound louder.

I wear hearing aids and my hearing loss is severe in my right ear. My hearing loss is also worse for high frequency sound. I have a the Bose Quiet Comfort 15s and wear them without my hearing aids. They are the best money I ever spent. I'm back to being able to really enjoy music after years of not being able to bear being around it because it was like listening to a lot of indistinct jumbed mess unless it was turned so high no one else could stand it. I love watching PBS Masterpiece/BBC programs on the Fire because I can actually understand what is being said. Even with very expensive hearing aids, I have to use closed captioning to watch TV because there are so many words I can't understand, I lose the context of the conversations, both for BBC productions and all American television programing. Except for those damn commercials.

Between the Bose headphones and the Fire, the ability ability to watch and enjoy so many quality TV productions I've missed over the years is so gratifying.

And I would recommend the headphones and not the Bose docking station if you have i-stuff. I've used one with my phone and Nano to listen to music, both with and without my hearing aids, and the quality of what I can hear is dramatically different. I don't believe it is the Bose docking system, though. Too much other external noise is amplified through the hearing aids but without them I lose too much unless I turn the thing way up. Then the dogs howl and the family protests.

I found the learning curve for the Fire was lengthy compared to how long it took me to learn how to use the i-Phone, but I also feel it was worth the time invested. I had seriously considered returning the Fire because I was so unhappy with the performance, but the 6.2 update took care of my issues. I'm now waiting for the update that will clean up the Kindle reading experience and kill that carousel. Then I'll be a super happy camper.

Based on my usage, I will give it an 8. Sometimes the touchscreen is a little laggy, but other than that, I am satisfied.
