On ghosting: just push the main button twice-- voila! ghosting goes away. Super simple.

Ok, thanks!
So now I feel better about the ghosting, but really bad about the battery drainage problem! It's not like I can just exchange mine. To those that had the battery drain overnight, did it happen right away, or days later? I will be in the US for a couple nights, but then I will be back in Canada. |

You are not alone. I really thing on pure design form the nook classic the by far the best looking ereader. I too enjoy the second LCD screen. but the new nook STR is just really cool LOL. Love it's back and I'm touch screen junkie. I WANT BOTH ![]() ![]() |

To increase the battery life, they had to ditch the LCD screen, get a bigger battery (bulkier device), or get new battery tech. The last one hasn't really happened in the last year for anyone, and ditching the LCD screen let them go lighter as well as getting better battery life. It really was the most logical choice. The design is interesting, but it was full of compromises that turned a lot of people off from it (including me). I'd rather see them focus on the Color and STR as they actually fit certain niches. The color fits the role of a tablet for the reading-focused crowd, while the STR fits the role of a dedicated eInk reader. Not that the STR is perfect, but it currently has the least "deal breaking" problems of the eReaders on the market other than maybe Sony/Amazon, but Sony's stuff is priced out of the market these days, and Amazon I don't buy into on principle. |

I don't know, I think the whole battery life issue was extremely overblown. If finding time to charge a device once a week is a major hassel then you have more issues to deal with than simply plugging an ereader in once every 5 days. |

For some people, a week is perfectly fine (I get a little over a week with WiFi on, and only turn WiFi off if I travel). For others who do a bit of trekking, then a week is too close for comfort. I could take a Nook STR backpack camping without worrying. But the first-gen Nook would be an iffy proposition. Those of us in that situation like eReaders because of the small amount of weight and volume it adds to what we need to take. |

so i guess packing your phone and your laptop just ruins the whole vacation. ![]() Unless you hiking in the Congo I honestly don't see the whole "the sky is falling" mentality when plugging in your ereader at night and having it good to go for another 5 days. but you're right to each his own. |

The battery issue really isn't an issue for me. I never have a situation where I want to use it and can't because it needs charging.

I owned one for almost a year and it was serviceable for the most part but I would not call it a triumph by any stretch. As a matter of fact, BN and its ereader competitors have done away with the best design feature of the original Nook in the user replaceable battery. |

I just received mine and even though I did prior research, I was still shocked at how light it is when I first lifted it off the case. It feels good in my hands, and I'm excited to get the reading starting.
The screen is good, and I've only gone through the user guide and settings, but the flashing was starting to bug me. Then again, it was not the usual sort of reading I'd have to go through so I'm hoping that it would get better. |

I went to the US last weekend and bought theSTR while there. So far so good. I like using both the buttons and the touch screen. I dont mind the pages not refreshing all the time, i thought that would bother me. I havent had it long enough to notice battery drain and i havent noticed the bad ghosting yet. Hopefully i get lucky.
Does anybody know if there are any squaretrade cupons on right now? |
