And, as I keep saying, and you keep ignoring, this is NOT the current law. It's pointless to speculate about what MAY happen in the future. The equivalent French law has not resulted in (seemingly) anyone losing their service. I see no reason to suppose that our (hypothetical) law will do, either, despite your claims to the contrary. |

I don't really think we're achieving very much here. Shall we just leave the matter and see whether or not your feared "mass disconnections" do come to pass? Personally I don't think they will, but perhaps I'm wrong. Let's wait and see what happens.

The fact remains that mass disconnections is what the BPI wanted, and what the BPI wrote into that law. How likely is it that a) "piracy" will decrease by 70% and make those disconnections unnecessary, or b) that the BPI will change their mind about wanting its best customers (and the rest of their family) disconnected from the internet? I don't know how much the BPI paid in order to be in a position to get to write UK laws to suit its own agenda, but they are likely to want to get their money's worth out of it.

I think you're being a little disingenuous in saying that the BPI "wrote" the law. It's pretty obvious to everyone that something needs to be done to crack down on internet piracy. I certainly think so, and I'm certainly not a "pawn" of the BPI. Naturally the BPI made their views known. I did too, and I assume that if you have an interest in the matter then so did you.
Anyway, I'm not going to participate further in this thread; everything that can be said probably has been, and we're just going round in circles. Let's come back to the matter in a year's time and see if your predictions have come true. |

One thing we agreed on was that the BPI could already persue unauthorised downloaders through existing laws. So the only thing that this new law brings to the table is the removal of any need for evidence that would stand up in court. If they gave that up at this stage it would be a complete waste of time and money.
Did you get any of your "suggestions" incorporated, word for word into the DEA? I know I didn't. |

Something which no one seems to have mentioned: the costs to the ISP's of policing this act.
Sit and wait for your internet bills to increase! |

And with increased internet bills, they will have less money to spend on other forms of entertainment. Still, at least the entertainment industry will be £12billion per year better off, won't they?
