I've never read the books, but I did enjoy Jack Reacher perhaps despite Tom Cruise.

I've never been a Cruise fan, but at least he learned to act a little bit in time for Interview with a Vampire. For that character, I would have gone with a young Rutger Hauer.

I liked Hunt for Red October enough (despite the fact that I hate all Baldwins) to read the book; but it seemed obvious to me that the character of Jack Ryan was built around Harrison Ford.

Agreed. It was the first Koontz I read, and I enjoyed it so much I read many more of his books.

I've always thought Gerard Butler could make a good Reacher. At 6'2" he's not quite there, but compared to Cruise...
