It's very rare, but sometimes abridgment can be an improvement. It puts me in a mind to watch "The Phantom Edit." |

I just figure that if I'm ever going to read it, I might as well hunker down and read the whole thing.

I read it in my youth, and loved it. Though my absolute favourite of the entire saga was The Man in the Iron Mask. When I have some time, and a dearth of new books to read, I intend to re-read the full saga. But it's likely to be in eBook, not audio, form.

I agree! I normally don't even consider abridged, but in this case, I will. Another audio book, that was a freebie once at Audible, is Washington: A Life. They had both the abridged and the unabridged available. I got both. However the unabridged is 41 hrs 57 mins vs the abridged at 14 hrs 20 mins. When I get around to listening, the odds are very good I will opt for the abridged.

I cancelled my membership but the promotion won't work for me at all, even trying several days after cancelling. A tip, anyone ? Thanks in advance.

According to someone at SlickDeals, this offer expires on 30 Jun.
So far, I've been unable to find out where this offer originated. Both CNET and SlickDeals reported it on 19 Jun, but neither of them stated where they got their information from. SlickDeals has a thread on this offer with 158 posts (see above link). |

The Great Courses--8 Courses Only $9.95 Each!
The Great Courses has a special offering of 8 courses on sale now at super prices.
Here are the choices: -Secrets of Mental Math. Professor Arthur T. Benjamin. -Origins of Great Ancient Civilizations. Professor W. Hart. -Experiencing Hubble: Understanding the Greatest Images of the Universe. Professor David M. Meyer. -Optimizing Brain Fitness. Professor Richard Restak. -History of the Bible: The Making of the New Testament Canon. Professor Bart D. Ehrman. -Museum Masterpieces: The Louvre. Professor Richard Brettell. -Thinking Like an Economist: A Guide to Rational Decision Making. Professor Randall Bartlett. -Art of Public Speaking: Lessons from the Greatest Speeches in History. Professor John R. Hale. Usually, when buying courses from The Great Courses, the least expensive option is to go for the audio download, then video downloads are usually the next least expensive. Finally, if you order a CD or DVD, the prices are about half again more than the audio or video downloads. Something special that they are doing with this promotion is offering all of the formats at the same price of $9.95. There is a shipping charge for the physical (CD and DVD) formats. If you're familiar with The Great Courses you know that most of their courses, even on sale, using discount codes, and choosing the least expensive format start at about $40 each. The courses above are $9.95 each! Too, again if you're familiar with The Great Courses you know that the courses are generally of outstanding quality. I have bought several of them myself and can vouch for that. Also, each course has a customer rating, on a 5-star scale, so you can try to choose the better-quality courses. Here's the link: http://www.thegreatcourses.com/tgc/c..._SOMind_Buffet. While I am on the subject of The Great Courses courses, I want to share another piece of information that can save you some money. I've noticed that Audible (http://www.audible.com) offers some (maybe all) of The Great Courses' courses. If there is a course that you see at The Great Courses website that you want, check at Audible before you buy; the course will usually, if not always, be cheaper from them.
