Hmm. Somehow I've missed this series, and it sounds interesting. It looks like the first one is Deja Dead. Not currently available from my library, but only $9 at Amazon. I might just give it a try. Thanks.

They go on special offer regularly. Amazon UK offered the first 10 books in the series for 99p each a few months ago. It's a series I very much enjoy.

This was good but not great. The ending was satisfying. Although, the authors used a now common enemy vehicle to add action and suspense. I was hoping for more originality. Rated C [3 stars].

Next, a purchase from 2014, Green for Danger by Christianna Brand. A mystery set in a military hospital during the Blitz.

I'll have to watch for a special, then. Though I'll probably buy the first one regardless. But unless it blows me away, I'm not spending any more than I have to right now.

I'm actively reading Shadow of Victory by David Weber, #14 in the Honor Harrington series, and Witch is When My Heart Broke by Adele Abbott, #9 in her Witch PI series. (Yeah, there are a couple of other books that I started reading and then set aside and will resume whenever.) I'm also listening to The Hot Gate, third and last in John Ringo's Troy Rising series. I believe that these are the first books I've read by Ringo and I'm simply gobbling them up. Any suggestion on which series by Ringo I should tackle next?

Books in hand that I will be reading soon:
* Rusty Nail by J. A. Konrath
* The Wayward Apprentice by Jason Vail
* Fire and Ice by J. A. Jance
* When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
* The Golden One by Elizabeth Peters
* Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
(All of these are borrowed -- from the library or from Kindle Unlimited.)

It's been ages...

... since I checked in here. Hi, all!

As November comes to a close, I am reading The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi.

It took a couple of false starts for me to get, well, started, but I finally have.
It does have my attention, but at only a chapter or so in, it's too early for me to say why.

I'm looking forward to the journey, though.

Second that. Emphatically. I am only so-so on many of his books, but the Empire of Man series (March Upcountry, March to the Sea, etc.), which is now available as two omnibus editions (Empire of Man and Throne of Stars), is a great read.

Thank you! I'm hoping I can spend more time here this coming year. Life just has me swamped.

I hope so too. But I do understand about "life" interfering.

Life? Don't talk to me about life…

–Marvin, P.A.

But seriously - latest reads over here have been some of Marvel's recently discounted "All-New, All-Different" e-collections. Five bucks each was a decent price to check out the beginnings of some of their new series: the Miles Morales Spider-book, Silk, Web Warriors, Amazing Spider-Man (starring Peter Parker as Tony Stark Lite), and Spider-Man/Deadpool.

Yeah, it's been a graphic-novel-heavy year for me, but I needed some light stuff.

Just finished "Demon's Gate", by Steve White, a standalone fantasy novel bought from Baen in 2004. The well-used plot of a fight against a plan to bring demons from another plane of existence who will destroy the world, but this one's very well done. Highly recommended! The ending, although a very satisfactory conclusion, leaves the opportunity for a sequel, but as far as I'm aware he's not written one.

Which was excellent. Mary Roberts Rinehart was known for her complex plots and surprise endings ("Had I but known!") and this one is no exception. I also especially enjoy her mysteries because she almost always shifts the focus of the plot on to some edifice, usually a semi-spooky summer home, as the scene of her various cozy murders.

Next up, one more cozy mystery by Mary Roberts Rinehart, The Album.
