Sorry about the hip, that sucks!

Replace "lazy" with "clumsy" because I've never had good spatial vision, replace "fatso" with "burly angry lesbian" and I have a new fantasy!

You tell 'em pshrink! When is your next reunion?

PE was a nightmare for so many of us, especially those junior high years when anyone who was different from the norm was ostracised or bullied.

I was born with dislocated hips and spent my first several months of life in a full cast from waist to toes. And while it worked, and I walk normally, I was hopeless at PE and anything that involved flexibility. Hip replacements are definitely in my future as well. You have my sympathy.

dg, i'm right there with you. i always feel i *should* keep up with the news because it's important to know what's going on, but sometimes i feel really overwhelmed and depressed by the state of the world. lately, every time i listen to the radio, all they are talking about is the "economic crisis" and even hearing the word makes me feel stressed. a few days ago they did a report about the increased frequentation of soup kitchens this winter, and how it might be necessary to keep them active all year long, and i thought "oh my god it's like we're living in the 1930's". i think i'm going to have to take a break from the news as well (i don't have a television, but i'll just turn the radio to a music station instead and leave it alone).

pshrynk, please DO go give your PE teachers hell, and know that there are so many people right there with you !! i hated sports when i was a child (i still do in fact) and i was a really skinny kid with no upper body strength at all (and not much strength anywhere else in fact) and little to do endurance (still true as well), so trying to do pullups on a bar was like torture to me and i really suffered during the enforced running. luckily i was taking classical ballet classes all through childhood and adolescence, and when i was about 14 or 15 i had 5 hours of class per week, and i was able to have that counted as my sports class and skip the ones at school. i can't even tell you what a relief it was to escape the official torture sessions.

like everyone else has said, it's completely idiotic to expect everyone to perform well at all the same things (physical and intellectual). i have some friends who never finished high school and who are some of the most intelligent, reflected and cultivated people i know.

I just woke up from a nap and my apartment reeks of burnt garlic. Why is it that only the bad cooking smells from the neighbors invade? Maybe my neighbors are just bad cooks.

i used to have neighbors who loved to make fried fish. to me this is the most vile cooking odour i've ever experienced ; whenever they did, it would pervade the entire building, including my appartment, although as soon as i smelled it i would run to close all the windows and light some incense.

one day, i smelled an ever worse odour. it was so revolting, so nauseating, so unbearably stinky that even the incense couldn't cover it, and i choked on the foulness and cursed my neighbors and their revolting taste and wondered what on earth they could possibly be cooking and how any human could possibly eat anything that gave off such a stench.

the next day i discovered that in fact one of the building's plastic garbage bins had caught / been set on fire in the street in front of the building ; so what i had smelled was in fact burning plastic and garbage. it didn't make me like the fried fish any better though.

We had neighbours who were addicted to barbecuing - whatever the weather! If it was raining hard, they'd set up on the drive and cook under the shelter of the garage door, otherwise they'd be in the back garden. This wouldn't have been a problem, except the meat they cooked invariably smelt very, very odd - almost as if the fat on it was rancid and burning.

Thank you everyone.

I feel better today, altho still a little depressed. Usually I can just kick myself in the butt and knock myself out of it.

Getting rid of the TV is not an option, with a husband glued to it all day and night because his health doesn't allow much else to be done, and he's not a reader.

However, there are many good things in my life, and sometimes I just let the bad things going on 'out there' override that.

Thanks all for the opportunity to vent!

It's Sunday evening and I'm trying to finish a PowerPoint for the training session I'm teaching tomorrow. Unfortunately, I don't have the updated version of the documentation that will be handed out because the writer was finishing it this weekend and hasn't e-mailed me the latest version. So, I'm working with what I've got and will wing it tomorrow. And I just realized that I don't have the right role in the software to create test examples. I've got to convince a co-worker to let me use her account this week.

Honestly, I'll be very glad to finish teaching this week. This project has taken over my life for the past couple of months and my regular work has been neglected. I'm frustrated. My boss isn't happy. My involvement in the project won't end for another couple of weeks. A group of us have to work a Saturday soon to manually migrate data from the old software to the new. And by manual, I mean copy and paste data from one program to the other. ARGH!

Gosh, I hope we are never the neighbors whose stink makes the rest of the street remember how badly we stunk! Thank goodness for the redneck bachelor next door, because as long as he is there, we don't have to worry about having the ugliest yard on the street!

Some rotters broke into our shed last night and took two of the bicycles in there. Sigh. The police have been out, and now we need to contact the insurance company. :-(

Oh - and to be slightly on-topic for mobileread, that's theft. :-)
