When I lost my beloved Andy, supercat, back in 1993, I was grief-stricken...but lonesome. I knew I couldn't replace him specifically, nor would I have wanted to try, but I could not stand my too-quiet house. I went to the shelter a couple of days later and adopted two sibling kittens who are still with me today at age 17. No, they didn't replace Andy, but they sure did distract me with their curtain-climbing and escape artist antics! They are both curled up in my lap right now as I type this -- Gus and Lori.

I put my 14 year old shih-tzu down on February 2nd 2008. She was like one of my kids. I miss her everyday still. I have a cat now and he's awesome. Kinda reminds me of her, same attitude. Always follows me wherever I go, and wants to be carried or held all the time. He fetches like a dog too!

I am so sorry Geoff about your beloved cat. Pets are family and it is so hard to think about losing them.

GeoffC, I have just read this, and I am so sorry to read about your cat.

The reciprocal love between animal and owner is so hard to explain. Their love is so pure and undemanding when the chips are down.

Also, never say never, regarding getting a repacement in the future. There are so many animals out there who want and need love.

All will share in the turkey dinner! Stocked up on several cans of "Turkey & Giblet Dinner in gravy" - they smell good enough to eat for dinner if the turkey doesn't thaw in time!
