KindleKitten, I'm sorry to hear about your femur... Maybe there is an alternative therapy you could try? I myself am researching/trying Ayurvedic holistic remedies for a malady I have... with some success.

My thoughts are with you.

KK... what's the next move? Suing the SOB might be fun, but it doesn't solve the problem. Time to find a different doctor with some real creds...

Agreed. Suing is for later, after you have REAL medical treatment to try to save the leg, as much as possible. This is INSANE. What hospital is he admitted to? (Privileges, I mean)...you need to call them and start making seriously heavy-duty noises, right NOW.

Can you find a decent surgeon? And, although I LOATHE litigation, have you considered it? That is beyond untenable. It's malpractice, and you KNOW it. If he was writing those Vikes, he knew damn well you were in a ridiculous amount of pain--and he should have checked. Necrotic! Can they save it--any hope at all?

Hitch
Before the second replacement, I went back to the first surgeon and got all of my chart notes. Then I had to get radiation injected and do that special scan. When I had the consult with the new surgeon they had the new scans PLUS the last x ray the old surgeon had done in January 4 months after he diagnosed the stress fracture. In that one you can clearly see the hole that was developing in the bone below the prosthetic. He never said a word about it. But the new surgeon did! She pointed it out ands said"that's exactly where you point every time you complain about pain in your lower leg. So it had been known for quite some time and not dealt with. I also had been telling anyone who would listen that it felt like the device felt like it was shifting and then I was always told I was nuts. Well sure enough the adhesive hadn't set. And the hole in the leg was a cyst that my 6'5 surgeon could put his thumb in to the first joint.

So frustrating. So now I begin a whole string of tests. X-rays are done, M R I (and Valium) ordered I have lawyered up he believes there is a good case. I haven't even spoke with him since the surgery. He'll be boggled!

I don't know what all of the options are. I've poked around a bit on the inter net but that just serves to scare me more than anything. It's weird though, when I knew the knee needed to be replaced again my pain level soared. I wonder if I just wasn't squishing it off in some corner of my brain and then it finally got to break free and say, I'm here! I'm real! Well now the thigh is doing it. Sleep has become a frigment of my imagination

I fully embrace alternative healing techniques, last summer I was receiving acupuncture treatments for the knee, leg and other injuries. For virtually everything that was being treated I felt at least temporary relief, anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 days. However knowing now what all of the problems were, there's no way any alternative would have gotten that adhesive to set, cleaned out the cyst and slapped bone goo in it. And for this next dilemma, the bone is actually dying from the untreated fall. I'm having a hard time getting my head around the possible western treatments might be, let alone a non traditional treatment

I am very comfortable with the surgeon who did this replacement. They have set my path in front of me. One baby step at a time. And! A lawyer that seems very confident

I'm so sorry for you, it's incredible to read you're again accused of abusing painkillers yet, again, they don't think why you are doing that. It makes me really angry.

I hope they'll be able to help mend your leg and in a way that you never ever have to go to the doctor for it again.

Good luck KK in whatever you decide to do. And I really hope the leg can be fixed without too much more trouble.

OMG! That is horrible! Oh, KK!

My late stepfather had a knee replacement in (I think) 1997 that went bad or was bad and had to have it done again in 2004. The November before Katrina.

Thanks for all the caring words everyone, they do help.

I know a partial reason why I am in this state right now. My former surgeon was treating me like a "seeker". Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there that are legitimately seekers, and many of them die, including a lot of celebrities. Because of this the government steps in and dictates to health care how much of whatever they can prescribe under what circumstances. After the injury to the thigh was finally diagnosed (but not treated! ) and I asked for more pain killers, the doc said he would only give me a very few and referred me to a pain management clinic on the mainland. I didn't immediately rebel as I thought, well ok, maybe it will be tools like hypnosis, acupuncture and so on, and the docs there would take on the medication part. I couldn't have been more wrong! It was a rehab clinic! And even better it was out patient! And over 50 miles away! And there was no such thing as being late. I was boggled, called his office back, told him what the deal was, and his attitude was basically, yeah? So? You're going to have to learn to live with the pain.
It wasn't until I spoke with one of the nurses at my insurance company that I was referred to a pain management clinic. So pita that it is, I take an hour trip each way and get the drugs the government is so afraid of.
Yeah, it sucks

Oh, and in both circumstances, the rehab thing I would have had to go every day for a month, and with the other one I have to go once a month

ARGGGHHHH!!! Yeah, prayin' for ya girl.

I think the best alternate therapy would be the applying of exquisite torture to that past doctor, several visits a day, ongoing for about 20 years or so. Your choice of the torture.
