Hm, that IS annoying that they are just doing an Amazon sale but full price at Kobo. Bizarre.

You say you've got a lot of money just sitting around? Are you bored with your life? Do you live in something larger than a shoebox? Are you single? Tired of all these questions? Well, hang on buddy, have I found a deal for you:

For only $499 (NOT $500), you can buy 50 Valancourt books ['Core Collection'; U.S. only orders; not ebooks], to add to your growing horror collection. This is a 40% savings over retail.

Come on: You know you want them!

https://www.valancourtbooks.com/starter-pack.html

NOTE: A select number of titles do not fall under the 'horror' genre.

(I have no affiliation with Valancourt. I'm just someone who likes to drool.)

I have most of the Paperbacks From Hell series, purchased at full price. They are pricey.

If they were ebooks for around $100 (or slightly higher), then I would take the offer.

Kobo's price match guarantee solves that problem. I follow the Amazon price drops on eReaderIQ, and then buy them from Kobo with the price match.

That’s too much of a hassle.

Here's some background from a publisher (Cheryl Morgan, Wizard's Tower Press) about how online discounts work in Amazon and other platforms:

Black Cat Weekly (52 issues for $19.95 for Annual Subscription)

I'm putting this in the Horror section, although it applies to Sci-Fi and Mystery.

For $19.95, you can get 52 issues (one number a week) of Black Cat Weekly in both PDF and epub.

If you like old-time horror, mystery, and sci-fi, you might find this yearly subscription of interest. I chose the yearly subscription choice about 4 months ago and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Here's the link: https://blackcatweekly.com/

You can see the covers and the featured short story/novel/novella selections to further see if this is something you might find interesting.

Also, I just received an email for a Freebie for a Black Cat Weekly Special Edition, located here:

https://blackcatweekly.com/collection/freebies

It's available in these formats: PDF, epub2, epub3, mobi.

Is there one stand-out issue from those four months that you might recommend, just to get a taste of what the magazine has to offer?

Rather than buy one issue for $2.99, for a total of $3.99 you can buy a 4-issue subscription.

Check back on this post for the word 'ADDED', and I'll have a recommendation. Keep in mind that I'm partial to old mystery-and-detective novels. Each issue has [almost] always 2 full novels, and sometimes 3 novels in each issue, along with a host of short stories and a novella or two.

ADDED:

This is the latest issue, but I have to read it. I enjoy Frank Kane's novels, and this issue includes one. Here's the intro to this issue, which hopefully will provide some interesting information for you:

"...This time he has selected original mysteries from Bev Vincent and Stacy Woodson. Rounding out the section, we have a Bryce Walton Hollywood crime story and a Frank Kane mystery novel (featuring detective Johnny Liddell). Plus, of course, a solve-it-yourself puzzler from Hal Charles.

"On the science fiction side, we have an anti-war story from Richard Wilson, a UFO story from Paul Torak, a rather silly science fiction/detective story from Noel Loomis, and a time-travel tale from Lester del Rey. Plus a pre-Golden Age science fiction novel from oldtime master Ray Cummings: The Man on the Meteor, which appeared in Science and Invention in 1924, two years before Amazing Stories and the genre of science fiction were launched!"

Thanks for that. All in all, it seems like a great value. I'll probably take the $3.99 monthly sub, so I'll get that issue. I've never read Kane, but I do listen to Golden Age radio drama, so I have probably heard many of his scripts.

I'm also a HUGE fan of OTR.

I've bought my share of OTR shows and ebooks from Radio Archives.

I also purchase a lot of their ebooks. Every two weeks (that's when they send me a new email), they have new audiobooks and 2 new ebooks that are only $1.99 each [the ebooks].

Here's a link to a new audiobook:

I have a pretty big collection of OTR too, of inconsistent audio quality. I've been listening for a couple of decades now and generally prefer OTR to straight audiobooks, though I sometimes make that choice.

Black Cat Weekly reminds me of the likes of Galaxy Magazine, from which so many episodes of Dimension X and X Minus One were adapted. Very cool

You probably know that Galaxy Magazine has been digitized and is available on the Internet Archive. The ebook formats don't work very well, but PDF on a tablet is pretty readable.

https://archive.org/details/galaxyma...tab=collection

Thanks for the Radio Archives links. I really haven't looked beyond their OTR offerings.
