Oh, he'll be like that sometimes. I've known him for ~10 years, and knew there would be issues working for him. But over time, he'll let go, and I'll deal primarily with the COO, who is my official boss. (My rant was about the person who used to do all the IT, on top of everything else, and who is the founder and the CTO.) I'm reasonably confident it will all work out.

Oh my - you have a worse version of boss - one who tries to 'fix things' without telling/involving you, and then dumps the results on you.

Fortunately, my boss doesn't try to fix computer problems himself - he just freezes and yells for help. Of course, completely unable/unwilling to recall what he just did to cause the problem .... they just seem to happen by themselves ...

Of course, as previously noted, he does try to fix physical/mechanical things, and has been known to completely derange the postage meter by simply trying to stamp one letter ....

Deep breathing, frequent trips to MobileRead, and medicinal Talisker will help.

Yeah, well, we'll cure him of that eventually. Right now, he still thinks he runs IT. And he IS smart. But he has NOT documented any where near as much as he thinks he has, and worse, what he has documented is woefully out of date. But we'll sort all that out over time.

Fortunately, all things mechanical in the office are under the direct physical control and maintenance of the Administrative Assistant, who is an absolute JEM.

Especially medicinal Talisker. Though I admit, last night it was a waste of good whisky. I suspect almost anything would have served the purpose. But one must maintain at least SOME standards.

Ahhh, you know the day has started when you've had your first phone scam attempt. The phone rang, and a person with a heavy Asian Indian accent said, "Hello, I am calling from the U.S. Treasury Department today." Now, it is entirely possible that people with heavy Asian Indian accents work with the Treasury Department -- but the real ones probably wouldn't hang up just because I was laughing.

We don't get any phone scams, luckily. We do now have a very persistent lady from a PR company calling every couple of days. Somehow she always manages to call when my father is helping a customer and I pick up the phone. She keeps asking at what time she can call that he's available for sure and getting angry with me when I tell her I don't know because we've got a store and customers don't have to make appointments to buy stuff.

My parent's house had a landline phone number that differed just one number from the one of a local doctor. It seems some idiot spread OUR number among an entire family of non-Dutch people, instead of the doctor's. Very often we'd pick up the phone to be greeted thus:

In Dutch, including accent: "Aaloo, spuriek iek mat die praktoik fan doktor Doezands?"
In (proper) English: "Hi, do I speak with the practice of doctor Duizends?"

Our answer would invariably be: "No, sorry. His number starts with 41."

Sometimes we'd be called two or three times in a row by the same person, and they're always persons of the same family. We have tried to explain that they need to FIX THE NUMBER on their side, to no avail.

This has been going on for as long as I can remember; my entire life as I lived in that house, and also after I moved out. I can remember them calling for at least 25 years.

Last year it stopped. My father finally ditched his landline in favor of one mobile phone. Cheaper, easier to take along, and ONE place for ALL numbers.

Suddenly, that family is without a doctor.
