Me thinks he should rant about how the quick process destroyed his long held wish for a long rant on the inefficiencies of government workers around the world.

I am less than a mile as the crow flies from the shoreline which is then a about five miles from west Seattle. Every great once in awhile when conditions are just "so" I can hear noise from the big city. Tonight there appears to be some motorcycles racing. Brought Strider straight up out of bed abd wasn't great for me!

I love that part of the country. I tried unsuccessfully to get my wife to come out for a few days when my job had me in Puget Sound for a month or so. Washington is beautiful, and and its people are some of the friendliest in the nation. I'd like to live near Seattle. Maybe not in Seattle, but close enough for frequent visits. I envy you, though I don't envy the occasional noise with which you have to contend. Or the mudslides. Or the earthquakes. But everything else is pretty golden.

The noise is really really unusual, that's what made it so noteworthy. The slide was about seventy five miles north west of where I am, and also boils down to, "did you really think living on the side of a mountain in a rainforest was a good idea?" And I'll see your earthquake and raise you several hurricanes. A year.

Not of course to mention the heat and humidity that you have! If there were just a bit more snow I'd be a really happy camper!

I've been wearing a hair shirt since this morning to make up for it. However, lacking stiff and prickly horsehair, I had to make due with cashmere, and just imagine that I was suffering. Unfortunately that brought up another problem; I don't suffer enough to remember what suffering feels like, so I conjured up the emotion I felt when the waitress in the ice cream parlor told me they were out of Mint-Chocolate Chip and I had to accept Rocky Road. I'm hoping this will be acceptable.

Annoyed that the delivery of some stuff I ordered has been delayed until tomorrow. Yesterday the tracking page said it would be delivered today, but this morning it has been changed to tomorrow. I don't need the items until Tuesday or Wednesday but I would like to have them now .

Meanwhile I'm also looking for a good paper trimmer. Every time I think I have found one I find reviews that say it either doesn't cut straight or is flimsily build.

I've been looking at them, the one I can easily get replacement blades for has a "guide wire", which seem to have a tendency to break. However, I've read that the trimmer works fine without it, too. I'd love to get a guillotine cutter (we have an ancient one in the store) but those are too big and too heavy for easy use.

Guillotine cutters come in all sizes, Bianca. Look for an office supply store or art supply. I've seen them as small as A5 size.

Arrrgh! The charger port on my phone, a Galaxy SIII, is, apparently busted. This will make the third time this has happened and, this time, it has lasted less than two months! I have insurance, thank goodness, but I'm going to insist they replace it with a different kind of phone this time.

Also, the stupid state legislature voted to make the oil companies immune from lawsuits. I'll let James Lee Burke's Dale Robichaux speak for me...

"Our wetlands were cut by over eight thousand miles of channels that allowed a constant infusion of saline into freshwater marsh: our poorest communities were dumping grounds for chemical sludge trucked in from other states; and the Gulf Stream waters of Woody Gutherie's famous song were strung with columns of oil that were several miles long... I also believe my home state is cursed by ignorance and poverty and racism, much of it deliberately inculcated to control a vulnerable electorate. And I believe many of the politicians in Louisiana are among the most stomach-churning examples of white trash and venality I have ever known..."
~James Lee Burke, Creole Belle

I need them for scrapbooking, which is 12 inch. I also want to buy a small one for my photographs, so that can be a smaller guillotine one. But the big one I want to get first because the one I have now doesn't cut straight.
