Just finished Shakespeare by Bill Bryson. A very interesting history which Bryson admits may be inaccurate because there are so few records of the man. In fact his closing sentence sums up the whole book rather well:

"Only one man had the circumstances and gifts to give us such incomparable works, and William Shakespeare of Startford was unquestionably that man- whoever he was."

I finished The Minor Adjustment Movie Salon by Alexander McCall Smith. It was another cozy spot of tea with Mma Ramotswe.

I am now reading The Good Lord Bird by James McBride. It is a corker. I love "Little Onion."

Got hold of the first five Ben Aaronovich 'Body Work' novels
(Aka Rivers of London Series) and am currently steaming my
way through the third! Loving them so far, just offbeat enough
to appeal to me.And still good basic 'whodunnits' at heart!

Finished "The China Governess", by Margery Allingham. This is the 17th book in the "Campion" series. Timothy Kinnit is trying to elope with Julia, but the question of his origins as a wartime refugee baby stand between them and their future. What does the "Turk Street Mile", once the wickedest street in London but now redeveloped after wartime bombing, have to do with the mystery? Can Albert Campion and the recently widowed Superintendent Charles Luke find the answer and discover who wants it kept a secret? Very enjoyable.

Please stop giving away the plot to books. You've been asked about this before. It completely spoils it for other readers. Use the "spoiler" tags. That's what they are there for.

If you do this again I shall simply delete your post without comment or notice.

Just finished "The Unlikely Ones", by Mary Brown. This is the first portion of a Baen Omnibus called "Here there be Dragonnes", which I bought in 2003. It's a very well-done classic fantasy "quest" novel. A young girl and a group of disparate animal companions (a cat, a crow, a fish and a toad), having been kidnapped by a wicked witch and had the memory of their past lives erased, go on a quest to try to discover who they are and what their destiny is. It may sound a bit corny, but it's extremely well-written, and I highly recommend it. You get three long fantasy novels for your money, and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

Stop it. Describing the main premise of a book has always been acceptable. It's the detailed revealing of subplots that's to be avoided. Describe don't Summarize.

Since this isn't in green, I'll assume you aren't speaking as a moderator.

So no, I won't stop it. Maybe if you are a little more courteous, I'll consider it. People have opinions; try to be a little more open minded.

You're right. People do have opinions. And it is my opinion that your equating of Harry's general description of a book's premise to the spoilering of a book's specific subplots is not very apt, and more than a little disingenuous.

But I've already contributed to the derailing of this thread more than I'm comfortable with.

I'm currently reading An Excellent Mystery. The 11th in Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael mystery series (books about an 11th century Benedictine monk named Cadfael who's good at solving mysteries).

First I made a joke, the smiley, and than I was intrigued. So it is my opinion that your subsequant posts border on the boorish.

If you feel you are Derailing the thread, than maybe you shouldn't have started.
