I've had good luck with TPLink switches. They do NOT have a three-way switch, so if you need to control one of those, you're out of luck. But both their switched plug and their Smart WiFi Switch work well with Alexa. You need to have a smart phone to install their app for initial setup, and the steps are not what you might expect, but if you follow the prompts and don't try to jump ahead because you think you're smarter than they are (don't ask me how I know), then they work well and you won't need the app again unless you want to control them outside of Alexa range.

I second the recommendation of the TP-Link Smart Plug (haven't tried the light switch). I just installed one last week to turn on our upstairs bedroom air conditioner and it plays nicely with Alexa.

It would be nice if the article actually explained how it's putting privacy first. And how something that can respond to a "glance" wouldn't be intrusive is quite puzzling to me--sounds like it would be watching me at all times, ready to pounce if I looked at it, like an annoying sales clerk in a fancy store. No thanks!

Yes, those were some of my questions too. They said that the privacy part was to have most of the AI done locally instead of in the cloud, but I cant imagine how they could pack that much computing power and necessary data base in something that's only slightly bigger than a Dot.

The part that I liked was it having access to all three (Alexa, Siri, and Google) knowledge bases, but I'd think Apple and Google might have something to say about that.
