I almost forgot about this one. Audible has, of all things, a Father's Day freebie. If you'd like a copy of "Go the F--k to Sleep" by Adam Mansbach andread by Samuel L. Jackson you can get it for free here. This is good through Sunday so if you're interested don't delay. I got this book a couple of years ago when it first came out and I think it's hilarious.

Enjoy!

Remember, syncing between the Kindle ebook and the Audible audiobook requires an internet connection. You don't need to be on the internet the entire time, but you do need to establish your position on the internet at the end of your reading/listening session. If you don't, Whispersync won't know where your position really is and will send you to the last known sync.

One feature you might try for her is Immersion Reading (see the info Froide gave you); but that requires ownership of a Kindle Fire (all models, except the first generation).

As to iTunes, I don't know how that would work. I don't use it. I would assume (no guarantees) that the books should sync in you're listening to them from the Audible app. Hopefully, someone who uses Audible through iTunes will be able to provide a definitive answer.

If you still have questions, don't hesitate to ask them.

Nothing like asking a non-specific question and then wondering why the answer doesn't fit.

My Amazon and Audible accounts are linked. I have three Kindles (two with keyboard and one touch). All of my books are on at least two of the Kindles; my kids have their books on their Kindles and then I have copies of the same books on my Kindle.

So my real questions are:

1. If I have a copy on my Kindle, and she has a copy on her Kindle, how does Audible know which copy to sync to? Will it always sync to the beginning (my book) or will it sync to the farthest page read (her book)?

2. I mentioned the iTunes thing to point out that I don't know how Audible itself manages books. To keep things simple and separate, I would download her book from the Audible cloud onto my device. I wondered if I needed to do something in the Audible app to tell it I wanted it to be linked with the companion Kindle version or is this automatic "feature" on Amazon/Audible's end?

Sorry for the confusion. I actually read the FAQ on the Audible site before I posted and it didn't help me -- that's why I posted here.

It will sync all books to the furthest read across all devices. You can reset the furthest page read for a given book by going to Amazon.com/myk.

If you use the Audible application on your iPhone, and the book has WhisperSync enabled, then yes, it will automatically link and set the furthest page read as you listen to the book. If you sideload with iTunes software, then NO it will not sync at all.

If someone else is reading faster than you or you're switching devices, a box will pop up informing you about the furthest page read and on which device. It gives you the option to either sync to that page or decline and remain where you currently are.

That answers my questions! I suddenly realized I didn't know how to link up the Audible and Kindle books. I've never seen a pop-up on Audible -- and it didn't occur to me that it would handle it the same way as it does for the Kindles. I'll have to be sure to tell my 7 year old to expect that. Thanks!

These titles sound interesting. It's a pity they're not available as library books.

I tell you what I miss... When Inmersion reading 1st started I could do it on my K3!! Now you cant bummer. They also gave away 31 ebooks & matching Audibles to try the new feature out. I listened to 15 on the K3 before they stopped doing it. One of the reasons I got the Fire HD when it 1st came out was cause of those books! & I have Yet to get the Sync to work on my K3 yet they say it does! So If I am reading & my eyes get tired but I still want to Listen to the book... shouldn't it do that? mine wont! It starts at the beginning when I do the switch??? Yes I contacted Amazon & Audible!
