Oh dear! This 'minimise from full-screen' business is complex. I thought I had cracked it, but clearly not.

Could you just check for me what build number of Freda you're running (the number is shown in brackets after the version number, on the splash screen, when no book is loaded). If it's less than 804, could you download and install the app again (from the drop-box download link from http://www.jim-chapman.net/freda).

Thanks,

Jim

Unfortunately the build I am running is 804 . I just downloaded it awhile ago. I am also running a custom rom. It is empirom based on 6.5.1 I believe. I've been too lazy to install a newer uptodate rom, but may have to

Oooops! I just requested the same TODAY, so I guess that my suggestion will be rejected too...

Usually, I try to find posts with the same subject that the one I'm about to create to avoid duplicates, but it seems that the way I searched for it wasn't good enough, because I didn't find yours...

I hope that the developer won't just kick me out of the forum...

Looks like a good idea. I will develop it in the next version. It'll go more quickly if some kind soul can point me at the spec for the stanza.xml file.

AFAIK is Stanza an OPDS client, please see http://code.google.com/p/openpub/wiki/OPDS

The Calibre2OPDS software already produces stanza compatible OPDS listings from the Calibre database, you might have something to experiment with there...

Regards,
Hakan (who would love OPDS capability to access his own Calibre server )

I'm not 100% sure what that means, but if it means OTA access to books not already on your mobile, I agree whole-heartedly. That would be several different kinds of awesome.

Yes, that is the idea. The application would have one or more OPDS-compatible library files to tell it what books you have in your library. For a book to be accessible over-the-air, you just need the library file to specify a URL that points to that book. Then, when you pick that book from your library, it gets downloaded from the URL. I can see how all this can be accomplished in principle ... so the rest is just 'a small matter of programming'. Give me a few weeks
The mechanism of 'publishing' your Calibre library by putting it into a DropBox folder looks like it should work, too.

If an appointment notification occurs, Freda looses focus and needs to be started from menu again. Might be my HP IPAQ PDA so be interested to see if others have the same issue.

Apart from that, all is good.

I've finally gotten around to trying Freda out on my X50v, and I'm very impressed with the results. I've been a loyal uBook user for many, many years but it's epub support is ordinary at best. Very nice!

I have one question/possible problem, though. Certain ebooks display strangely, with very large gaps between every paragraph. I've fiddled with the settings and haven't been able to reduce or remove them. Included in these are purchased and free ebooks off Smashwords, for example. Has anyone else seen this?

Edit - I'm running Freda v6 (build 804) on my X50v which is patched to WM6.1 Classic

I haven't run into any such thing that couldn't be fixed in options -> book properties. Though I'm still a few builds behind you.

Do they display differently in Freda from the way they look in other apps, such as the Calibre viewer or Adobe Digital Editions? I've seen a fair number of epub books that were just built with excessive spacing between paragraphs. (Including, according to reports, some of my own from Fictionwise.) If I find it annoying, I run them through a Calibre conversion (epub to epub), and tell it to take out spaces between paragraphs. It usually works.

The setting most likely to help you is Options>Book Properties>Max Margin. Use a setting of 0% to eliminate all margins, both horizontal and vertical. Quite possibly those large spaces between paragraphs are vertical margins.

If that doesn't help, please email me one of the books that is giving you trouble and I will fix Freda to read it better.

Thanks,

Jim
