Very interesting - especially the lower spec 300. My guess is someone (Borders, Waterstones in the UK??) wants to compete with Amazon by giving away a reader with a large tied-in voucher for their store. Prices of hardware have to fall for the non mobileread.com public to start switching, Amazon are allegedly going to Kindlise the UK for Christmas, I sense we are on the cusp of something big.
You heard it here first! And my 505 is as fab as the day I bought it ![]() |

I'd like to make a comment on the body of the PRS-505.
I may be wrong, but thought the 505 only has metal on top and on the bottom. The rest of the enclosure was made (if I'm right), from ionized plastic (where they layer the plastic with a metallic layer). I don't believe the 505 is made of aluminum. I could be wrong. |

I don't think so, for me only the top and the bottom are made in ionized plastic and the main shell is made of aluminium..

The setup, way that the article was presented, etc.. almost makes me believe Sony wants feedback from the forum.
As quickly as they added the devices (tell me honestly, who in the world has time enough to be scooping off of Sony's articles,IP adresses, sites, etc... to search for usermanuals of a new device)? Sony would be doing good following in Microsoft footsteps by listening to this forum's feedback, as the opinions expressed might come close to 60% of the opinions expressed of the people using the device. Microsoft made a serious mistake in releasing Vista, and requiring high hardware to run it, until customers complained, and reverted back to XP. Microsoft is not the only company that gets it's information from websites, where possible future buyers are debating and talking about their issues. I'm sure a wise business solution to listen to the customer, and perhaps that's what they where trying to do here... Am I paranoid? |

bol.com (NL) is releasing epub-books+a sony reader on 26'th of august http://translate.google.com/translat...istory_state0= I hope they will price the prs-300 at 200,- but i'm afraid they'll start with 300,- and lower the price later. Bol.com can't be ignored. dutch people don't know about amazon, they have bol. Any amazon innovation will be brought to the netherlands by bol first. Last edited by xzf; 08-01-2009 at 05:11 PM. |

It probably has been mentioned, because the 300 and 600 are listed as available in the Netherlands (as well as US, Canada, UK, France and Germany). So Sony is presumably going to announce on or before the 26th in other countries too.

The look of the 600 is starting to grow on me after seeing it for a day or so now, but I still think it would be a better device for the simple addition of two nicely-sized next/prev buttons on the right part of the frame.

I was at the Sony Style store today in Tyson's Corner, Virginia. They still have the 700 in stock and the red 505. The display that they have at the store is still pretty impressive. They haven't scaled it down at all, with several models of the 505 and 700 on display. The salesperson I spoke with mentioned 2 new models that were coming out but could not give me any specifics. When I asked him if they were the 300 and 600, he told me he thought so. When I asked him if they were going to discontinue the 700, he wasn't sure but thought there was a good possibility. Bottom line, Sony's salespeople don't know much of anything, but they are anticipating some changes.
