Yes, all other epubs download correctly as epubs (from Kobo, Smashwords and so on).

No browser should be changing the file extension if there's no mime type. So really, it's the fault of the browser.

I looked at it and it looks perfectly fine to me. It's not a PDF.

I converted them using kindle unpacker ages ago, what I was trying to convey was that those books are not available as ePub downloads from Amazon at this point in time.

And what about downloading real zip files? With automatic extension changing you will get epub every time.

Has anyone found any indication before the purchase that the download will be available. So far, it looks like that situation is actually made worse by this change. Books that used to say simultaneous use unlimited, if they have the epub download, no longer say it is unlimited. From where I'm stilling, I'm less likely to buy a book as I have not been able to figure out if it has DRM.

There is currently no indication that additional downloads are available. Maybe this comes later?

This is certainly the case for me. I can change the file name (including the extension) for anything I download with Chrome. You just have to tell it that's what you want to be able to do in Chrome's Download settings. That's on a PC, mind you. Not sure what options might be available for Chrome on mobile devices.

If the eBook is published without DRM, after December 9, 2025, you will get to download it. If the eBook was published before then and as been allowed, you will get to download it. I don't know of eBooks without DRM before December 9. One eBook I did download was before December 9. But it was without DRM.

I'd check Baen and Tor eBooks, they adversities themselves as DRM-free.

Did some poking around. With 2100+ books in my Kindle library (85 pages...), the thought of going through them one-by-one looking for downloads makes me blench. They need a filter in My Content & Devices to select downloadable books.

Also agree about flagging a book is downloadable prior to purchase.

Both Chrome and Opera download as garbage name ZIP on a Mac; Safari downloads as garbage name epub.

The way I look at it, I'm able to download mostly KF8. So I may end up with better code then I'd get from an Amazon ePub. If the code I get from the KF8 is good enough, I'll not bother if there is an ePub option.

The Tor books in my library seem to be downloadable; the Baen books so far aren't AFAIK. So I'll be purchasing direct from the publisher or from Kobo for the foreseeable future. About the only books I will purchase from Amazon are going to be comics and graphic novels which I usually read on my iPad not my Kobo.
