So I'd take better performance over battery, because as much as I read, battery life is not relevant. This is not to say that I wouldn't love it if my reader batteries DID last over a week, but it just doesn't happen here and I've given up expecting it to. |

I breezed through this thread as I'm always interested in new stuff, but not particularly Kobo. So here's my $0.02 cents.
Ok, you're allowed to still love/keep your 10 year old reader but the iMX6/SL is dead/dead/dead and nobody should be selling them today. Every device should have Bluetooth. If you haven't discovered the joy of clickers or keyboards yet you could have a big surprise. I value Bluetooth over WiFi. USB Mass Storage was ALWAYS a terrible idea. (Which is not to defend MTP.) UMS is like giving the keys to your "hard disk" to a stranger over USB and saying, "Could you be careful please and not screw up the indexes and allocation tables?" Also, while you're "lending" your "hard disk" over USB you can't access it yourself. Bleh! What a bad idea. My solution: (Which works for me, but maybe not you.) I keep directories on my desktop and sync the contents with my various Android devices using ADB (and more specifically my own AdbSync.exe) which is blazingly fast on the USB 3.1 on my Poke3. Okay, Kobo doesn't do ADB, but it could. |

Out of interest what clickers do you use/recommend?
Are there any around with multiple buttons (for forward and backward)? |

I've used everything from "selfie" clickers to A/V 5-way remotes to single foot pedal to 4 button foot pedal. Usually the problem is to get some reasonable button values which work with the applications that you care about. Yes, you can remap the buttons at the system level with /system/usr/keylayout/Vendor_1234_Product_5678.kl (Bluetooth devices have VID/PID equivalents to USB). Still, that makes things more complicated for using various devices.
You can also add/change key assignments at the application level too, especially if it's open source. Onyx/Boox makes a TV-like remote that's applicable to their models, but most of the button choices wouldn't suit other users. It uses a lot of F1-F12 keyboard keys. I've actually designed and ordered some custom circuit boards to put in a generic clicker case. This is the one on the right with four buttons. I'm thinking forward, back, menu/refresh, sleep? There's a thread here:https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=341684 |

As far as clickers go, I couldn’t care less. I’m going to hold the ereader, ergo no need for a clicker which needlessly drains batteries, needs to be lugged around with the ereader, and does little to nothing I can’t do with a finger. Perhaps if I wanted a device that functioned as a display sure, but at that point I’m not going with anything smaller than 10” anyway, and even then 10 would be unlikely. |

Why would I need a clicker or a keyboard with a 6-8" ereader? It's too small to read from a distance, unless you're really farsighted (which I'm not), so naturally I hold it in my hand.

No, I didn't know that explicitly but I inferred it from this thread. My point was that many manufacturers seemed to have delayed putting in Bluetooth because they personally didn't see the utility of it. While wireless clickers, keyboards and headphones won't appeal to everybody (as shown by the comments) there is plenty of diversity among the needs of ereader users.
I still think that UMS (where you plug in your device and it sits there showing a screen that it's plugged in and can't do anything, where you have to "eject" it before you can continue) was always a bad idea, dictates what file system you use (generally FAT and it's variants) and has more potential of corruption than any known connection method. AFAIK Kobos still do this. My suggestion for using ADB was not a wholesale endorsement of Android. The Android subsystem on Android devices runs independently on top of a Linux-like base. ADB does not need the Android subsystem. A port could actually run on any OS. |

Yes, you have an "eject before unplugging" screen when connected via USB on Kobos. (Same with ever other ereader I've ever owned.) I imagine the typical Kobo user actually connects it via USB seldom to never -- between Kobo, Overdrive, Pocket, and for some models Dropbox.

Thanks for confirming I'm atypical - No Dropbox, no Pocket (& no interest in either) a total of 2 books borrowed via Overdrive in 4 years of Kobo ownership and I connect my Kobo to my PC via USB 2-3 times a week when I'm reading a lot

While I do have Dropbox (and consider it indispensable for off-site backup and syncing between different computers), I'll probably continue to load my books via Calibre, to get the series and collection info right. |

I would consider everyone here including myself atypical ereader users. I use all of the things I mentioned and connect via USB fairly often too.
