Having multiple users is great, it means I now don't have to change settings anytime a friend wants access. Having VL available inside is nice, but it doesn't restrict accessible content within a library, and that's what I'm looking for. They were great in the old one, I could setup a library that my mother loved since it was entirely cookbooks, knitting and gardening manuals. (I have a column to give all books a classification to make virtual libraries easier). Or for my friend who reads the same fanfiction's I do and is too lazy to go out and download his own and tends to get on mine to download epubs. I actually had Virtual Libraries setup for different people for sharing and just changed access when they needed it. I used to have multiple libraries, but since Virtual Libraries made things easier it's almost all been compiled into 2 huge libraries and a small couples ones (for cleanup/testing). Being able to limit a others (friends or family) from seeing that I enjoy reading fanfiction, or another from seeing some of personal stuff (I have some of my personal writing notes, old fanfiction from when I wrote, stories *not* for others to read, etc) After testing, I really do like the new setup, but I'll probably go back to the old system in hopes you make the change in the future. I really don't want to split my libraries again. I like them all in one place. Last edited by Atherton25; 05-17-2017 at 05:04 PM. Reason: Some cleanup/moving to make clearer. |

I'm having some slow issues when I try using it on mobile, and dolphin hangs, but Chrome works fin am unsure if that's an issue with the program or dolphin, likely the later. So far other than that it has been working fantastic for me.
If you are considering it, I'd like to weigh in about the library restrictions as well. I wasn't going to say anything be ause it hadn't really been brought up, but having some sort of ability to filter content is really great. I share my library with a few friends and have always filtered what they had access to through the VL restrictions with the old library. A search restriction would work just fine though, as long as there's some option to do it. |

I can certainly appreciate the nicety of being able to restrict content inside a library, that was why the option existed in the old content server. However, as I said, it is rather difficult to implement in combination with in UI virtual libraries. That said I wont rule it out completely, just not for the moment.

@Metaxil This feature uses lots of advanced HTML 5/CSS 3 things so it is unlikely to work with anything except the latest modern browsers such as Chrome/Firefox.

Hi Kovid,
sorry for my late response. I was a couple of day's on a trip. Most of my problems regarding user and restricted access to server are solved with beta #5. Well done. Some observations I made: 1. Webserver: Library names will not will not shown case sensitive. Is this intended? (pic1) 2. Webserver: A book with no cover will display a blank cover w/o book title (pic2) 3. GUI/server: Setup user account (pic2+3). a) There is one library that won't be shown as allowed access: Calibre Embroidery, but is set up as allowed. b) The second one is not shown as case sensitive Name. I did not change this. c) A whish. Is it maybe possible to have a full path info (maybe as tool tip) so that it is possible to identify the location? I use same naming for productive/non productive server locations and then it will be difficult to identify the correct library 4. sqlite-db. Maybe better to scramble the PW when calibre beta become productive status in terms of secureness. 5. Web server: Is it possible to have a user logout too? ![]() calibre V 2.99.5 Windows 10 64bit (1607) FireFox V 53.0.2 64bit Best regards, DD Last edited by Divingduck; 05-18-2017 at 03:19 AM. |

@DD:
1) Will be fixed in the next release 2) I cannot replicate this, steps I tried: - Right click add book, select add empty book - Start content server - In browser a generated cover is displayed with title and author 3) a) Not sure what's going on with that, I'll have to look into it b) Not sure what you mean by that? c) This is deliberately not done so as not to leak information about the host computers filesystem 4) Cant be done because HTTP Digest Auth requires the server to have access to the unhashed password. Besides if somebody has access to the server computer, then they can do anything they want including changing the stored passwords/descrambling them (in case of encrypted but not hashed passwords), etc. 5) Cant be done, HTTP Auth does not support logging out, and the server has to use HTTP auth, because it has to work with non browser clients such as OPDS software. |

@Kovid
2) please forget this one. My fault. As I recognize now, that was a mistake within that library. (PDF-Dokument, first page blank ...). Seems, I will have to validate this library. Sorry for this. 3.b) The last yellow marked librara called "calibretest-embroiderydb" is called actual "CalibreTest-EmbroideryDB". I need to check this once more. Maybe this have to do with the first beta. Maybe that will only change, if I delete all users with access to the library. I will come back on this after a new test later today. 3.c) Maybe a bad description from my side. I meant as additional (path) info within GUI (pic2) where I set the library access for a user, not Web-GUI. 4. I will work around that. The question came up because this file is the only one I have with readable PW's in a DB. 5. Then I need to deal with it ![]() |

Yes. Thank you! I don't use the sharing feature much, but some things in my library would be considered offlimits to certain people.
As for mobile browsers, I suspected as much. I was glad my Chrome on my phone still worked. I was going to experiment and see if I could get dolphin working (I have some features disabled) but haven't got to it yet. It actuallywas stuck at login, not giving me a prompt. I will likely try it with some other mobile browsers and report back just because I'm curious. Personally, I'd probably be downloading the books anyway, so as long as a browser works, its fine, but I wanted to test it fully. |

Try to delete all User accounts in one step.
Spoiler:
Deleting one by one did the job. Regarding 3.b). Deleting all users and create new didn't help. In addition I rename the library. After reopening the dialog the old behavior was back. Best regards, DD |
