Probably the weather also depends on the part of the state too doesn't it? I have heard that the weather varies depending on where you are in Texas.

That's like saying the weather varies depending on if you're in North Carolina or Florida or Louisiana. It can be more than 800 miles to drive across the state

Yep, the climate varies from one part of the state to another due to the large size. But we have a saying here, "If you don't like the weather wait five minutes and it will probably change." That is especially true in the winter when we can go from sunny and hot in the upper 80s to windy and cold in the 20s in a matter of just a few hours. But that is probably true for a lot of other places too. The exception of course is summer wherein it will be hot no matter where you live in Texas, but dry or humid or something in between depending on your location. Our meteorologists often joke that they could record a forecast for a typical day in July-August then take the rest of the summer off by having the forecast replayed every day!

El Paso is the best city in Texas, but it feels more like New Mexico than it does Texas.

I live just south of Fort Worthless. (Yep I spelled it that way on purpose!) From my home to El Paso is about 550 miles as the crow flies and 610 miles by road. Big state. I'm also about the same distance from:

• Albuquerque, NM
• Pueblo, CO
• Lincoln, NE
• St. Louis, MO
• Mobile, AL

I'm all in favor of taking New Mexico's eastern border and running it all the way to the Rio Grande and giving that portion of Texas to New Mexico.

Other than El Paso, there is not much out there. Mostly cacti, scorpions, rattlesnakes, pronghorn antelope, the McDonald Observatory, and a national park. Very few people live there.

I live in Odessa which is about 250 west of Jack and I am still roughly 300 miles from El Paso.
Pretty much only the panhandle gets the bad winter weather.
My mother might get a freeze every few years. She lives in south Texas.

Yep, we have a tropical climate in south Texas and a climate almost like Colorado in the northern panhandle. It is dry and desert like in the west and humid and swampy in the east. And just plain sucks in the middle!

I would love to give up Texas for New Mexico or Colorado. But I have trouble walking, and living in a location with a lot of slippery, frozen precipitation would be a dangerous accident waiting to happen. California would be nice, but unless I inherit a large fortune that ain't never happen either!

Plus California has earthquakes and the ground being eroded from underfoot to deal with. Of course here in the midwest we have the occasional tornado warning and sometimes actual tornado's so no matter where you live there is something weather wise that can cause trouble.

Here along the I-5 corridor of Washington, we have earthquakes and volcanoes to contend with. Further west on the coastline, they have earthquakes and tsunamis to contend with. Plus, there are the winter storms with flooding and occasional hurricane force winds. Then we have the fall, winter, and spring rains, but mostly in the form of constant drizzle. If you want snow, a short drive into the Cascades will yield a veritable winter wonderland with record-breaking snowfall.

Still, it's paradise; especially when compared to other places I've lived.
