I have checked it out before. It's not possible to order it directly and over EBay you have to add VAT and/or custom dues.

Despite that the Japanese Sony Reader will most probably not usable as long as you cannot read Japanese.

So the Onyx Reader will be the best fitting device for your job.

Thanks a lot for the replies.
Yeah, Max is 696.15 € with tax included which is getting close to Sony in case I would go for a conference in US and buy it there for $ 799.95 (joblack You were right - the ~930 € price in ebay is without tax, I did't think about that).
I'm wondering about what xhacker said, that Sony has slow CPU. What' s the experience with Max, hope it performs well (it is one of the major flaws of my Pocketbook now - it takes forever to change pages, go to a specific chapter in a large book with lots of graphics).
If anyone has information on how to get that student discount (don't see anything mentioned here: http://ereader-store.de/en/75-onyx-boox-max.html), that would be great.

"I can also add that earlier reports indicated that the pre-production units let you install apps, so while the Max supports PDF, Epub, and other common document formats out of the box, it is really only limited by the apps you install."

What exactly that means?Any thoughts?

AFAIK the student discount won't be so high anyway because the profit margin is small. It is planned to work with the ASTA (students union) to create some collective orders.

It means exactly what it says: that it's an Android device that you can install apps onto, just like you can with other Onyx devices like the T68.

. I have saved money for several months to have it when it will be released. So I'm not broke but my e-book spending budget is drained for the next months.

I would like to know what the page turning speed is like compared to the Sony DPT-S1. Anyone knows?

I know, but I would think it depends a lot on the kind of pdf that's being read. Would be nice to see the Sony and the Onyx next to each other turning pages of the same pdf.

I have the Onyx i86+. The page turning speed depends on the app you're using. I've found that 3rd party apps like Orion Viewer and KOReader have incredibly fast page turns (for an e-ink device, that is). Its the different way these apps load and handle PDFs. I have uploaded a video on youtube. I think the same applies to the Onyx Max.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yv6WVlfvZc

We'll see about the speed. Of course, more complex pdfs will be slower but the same will apply on the Sony device.
