(Two audiobooks, one book I've read before, three time-fillers, and the one "real" book that I read when I'm reading intentionally.)

My husband bought me a subscription to Next Issue (he's in the trial period; "bought" will come in the future). It's one of those subscriptions where you get the latest issue of an assortment of magazines each month for a flat rate. I've been reading The New Yorker, in place of one of my time-fillers, so I might end up falling *way* behind if I decide to keep up with it.
It turns out I really like the interface for reading The New Yorker through Next Issue on my phone (I don't know how it compares to the actual New Yorker digital copy; it might be the exact same one) and I have been reading that instead of pretty much anything else.

I expected to finish one more book before the end of this month, but it didn't happen. I think this will not be record-breaking Read Books year, but as long as I can finish at least one book every month, I'm okay with that, since I'm still reading.

I am surprised there are not more updates on progress given that we are now psychologically one quarter through the year. Anyway, some useless statistics:

Challenges
Bookclub: 4/8
Canada: 9/6
World: 1/6
Second Chance: 5/5
TBR: 4/5

Miscellaneous
Total Books: 32
Paper Books: 21
Electronic Books: 11
Pages Read: 9,864
Authors: 24
New Authors: 12
Countries: 9
New Countries: 1

Purchases
Spending on books: $0.00

I'm officially a minimum of ten books away from finishing all of my sub-challenges for the year.

Following HIMS lead, here are my useless statistic:

Challenges
Pages: 7,618 out of 24,000 goal
Diversity: 17% Fantasy overall, 20% maximum
Re-Reads: 15% overall, 20% maximum
Indies: 33% overall, 20% minimum
Bookclub*: 2/4

Miscellaneous
Total Books: 18
Paper Books: 1
Electronic Books: 17
Library Books: 12
Authors: 11
New Authors: 6
Books by New Authors: 10

I had a great start to the year which is keeping me on track for my main goal since I haven't met my monthly page goal for the last 2 months.

*I count both selections and nominations that I end up reading towards my book club count. Basically if I "discover" it because of the book club, I count it that way.

OK, one quarter of the way through. I'm doing pretty well. Under budget and TBR down.

[stealing report card idea from treadlightly]

1. Unread ebooks from 2005 and 2006 read: 16/54, 29% (B)
2. Budget: £52.93/£75 (B)
3. TBR at 729, down 21 (C)

Not too bad at all.

I'm one book down at the moment but hoping to rectify that over the next few weeks as we have a few days away from other distractions whilst we sail from Egypt to Greece.

At the 1/4 mark, I am slightly ahead of pace to complete 200 books this year. I'm hoping that things (work/travel) don't interfere with reading as the year goes on.

Pages: 14,000 of 50,000
Series completion: 5 of 35 (books); 0 of 3 (series)
Library books: 22 of 50

Miscellaneous
Total Books: 52
Paper Books: 3
Electronic Books: 45
Audio Books: 4

Teen Books: 7
Tween Books: 13

Adventure: 4
Fantasy: 9
Mainstream Fiction: 2
Mystery: 20
Non-fiction: 2
Paranormal/Urban Fiction: 4
Romance: 1
Science Fiction: 11

March TBR challenge: 17

Well, at this rate, I'll just make my main 120 book challenge. But that's deceptive, because I've slowed down considerably since the first of the year, and if that trend doesn't change, I'll not have much, if any, chance of making that goal. OTOH, I'm mostly doing OK about tracking my books and recording purchases. That's an area where I could do better, but where I'm at least confident that I'm keeping close to accurate numbers. A big improvement over previous years.

I'm doing okay:

27 books read
9674 pages read
7 new authors
6 series finished or up-to-date
2 abandoned
0 books of 700+ pages

I need to work on my 700+ page challenge, but I just haven't been in the mood for longer books. I usually read several longer books during the summer when I'm housesitting.

I am a bit behind on page count compared to the previous two years. However, those two years I took a lazy vacation during the first three months where I did a lot of reading. Later this month I'm going away for four days and with 2 two and a half hour bus rides and a relaxed itinerary (having something planned for the morning and just see what I want to do in the afternoon) I hope to get some more than average reading done. Also having new hobbies is eating into my reading time.

Personally I use Kindle Unlimited to put a lid on my book purchases. With the program I am guaranteed, if I get all my books within the program, that my book spending will be no more than $10 a month. That's the cost of 1 1/8 books for me, which is a good deal. I refuse to pay any more than $8 per book, no one is worth more than that I do not care who they are.

... That is, provided that Kindle Unlimited has the books you want to read, you read more than one book a month, and you don't reread...

I am "buying" quite a few books through KU, but that really doesn't cover all of my reading. Right now I have 3 KU books and 6 non-KU books on my "TBRRN" list. And frankly, nothing on that list is grabbing me this week. Ennui has set in.

Realized I hadn't updated my challenge info in a while. It didn't help that hadn't completed a single book during the month of March; but I now have 2 completed for April. I will attempt to complete a 3rd by the end of the month, I just need to decide where I want to go next.

I hope everyone is enjoying their challenges this year and I wish you all much success!
