Thanks for that explanation. I am not knowledgeable about fonts, so I'm learning. Thanks!

To my eyes Georgia is a nice neutral-looking font that displays well on screens, with good weight. To me it's virtually "transparent" - I don't notice the font particularly when I'm reading with Georgia, possibly because it's very similar to a paper-book look. And it looks great at smaller sizes, without either squishing together or being too squat.
My eyes hate Caecilia. It's just clunky and hideous. |

To offer an alternate viewpoint, I find Cecilia to be a lot clearer than Georgia. Everyone has their own preferences in these matters. I used Cecilia on my Kobo H2O, and also use it on my Kindle Voyage.

I also selected Cecilia on my H2O. I have only had it for a couple of weeks but so far I do prefer Cecilia over the other fonts.

Out of all the preloaded fonts on the Kobo's, my personal preference by far is Amasis. I wish Amazon would have included this choice on their Kindles. I don't mind Caecilia too much, but have started to embed either JS Wolf's modified Charis SL or another font that a user (sorry can't remember who) posted to this forum a while ago--"DejaVu Serif E-ink" for books I put on my Kindle. I do wish Amazon hadn't disabled the easy hack for adding your own fonts to the Kindle!

Thanks, everyone. I know that for some fonts just naming it one thing doesn't mean everyone is downloading the exact same font either. I had a client who wanted Palentino on the front for the title--but there were several variations on Paletino and I didn't have the one he had. He had one that was for purchase only. Fonts can be a real pain in the patoot.
But I hadn't heard of the Georgia one. I tried it out and quite liked it. |

My modified version of Charis SIlL that I linked above have some big advantages when embedded on a Kindle (KF8).
1. Not Cecilia 2. Fixes the wide line height in KF8. 3. Looks really good |

Amasis is too similar to Caecilia which is why it doesn't look good.

They're both slab serifs, but the resemblance ends there for me - Amasis has some nice thickness variation and elegance, very different from Caecilia's square, clunky shapes (which are very suitable for a much less high-res screen than those available today).
