If you go to your MYK page then devices you will see all the K4PCs listed each time you registered it. They must have been DRM free ones you could open or you redownloaded the book with the new DRM code. Yes Amazon adds DRM to all non KDP books including Carina and Samhain.

This isn't romance, but it's a Regency mystery series written by Jennifer Ashley using the pen name of Ashley Gardner. A bundle containing the first 3 books plus two short stories is on sale for $0.99. I don't usually read mysteries, but I really like the author so I bought it (as usual, the $0.99 price point snagged me. )

I have registered and re-registered my Kindle for PC many times without it being listed as multiple devices. What's more, if you re-register it on the same computer and the files are still in the Kindle Content directory you can still open them after you re-register. If it's a new computer, or if the files are no longer in the Kindle Content directory, then you need to redownload. So it depends on the circumstances. I did have to redownload when I switched computers!

It's an excellent series; I had the first four full length books in dead tree format ages ago and happened to stumble across the 5th thru 7th plus the three short stories (the other one is in the 2nd bundle) in my Amazon recommendations last year. I was thrilled to get 'em all as ebooks and catch up on what I'd missed, I purchased all seven plus the short stories on Smashwords when they were on sale (or had coupons, I don't recall which. The 8th book in the series comes out September 20, it's gonna be an auto-buy for me!

I have. If you have to read on a computer screen, the interface is decent enough.

It has never worked that way on mine. It's always show up as a new device.

I do sometimes for reference. It's much easier than going back pages on the Kindles to find something. Maybe Page Flip will solve that issue. I always need to go back and read who someone is or what they look like.

Actually, Amazon only follows the directions of the publisher. some do leave them DRM-free (for example, both Baen and Tor are big publishers that have their titles DRM-Free in the Kindle store).

Some KDP books have DRM, as well, since each author gets to choose, there.

And just for total inconsistency, my K4PC isn't even listed under my devices. I un-register it frequently as we have only one PC but multiple Amazon users in this house (all our books are always there, though I've never tried to read one via the app). indeed!

Hmm, I've only ever had the one device name and it has given me the same one every time I have deregistered/reregistered. Even this last time when things stopped working. But as I said though it was the majority of my books, it was not all of them. The tech guy didn't seem to think I should have to redownload them either. He worked with me for nearly an hour before he decided that may be the only way. And even then he kept saying it was because the books had been revised and had new data in them

These were mostly books from a few years ago. Most of Amazon Carina titles are DRM free, just not all. Carina makes a big deal about being DRM-free, so not sure why that is. I usually buy from them directly or Kobo with coupons.
