OK, I found the forum:

Whoa!!! Quite a shocker. The gist of it being the devices don't have full access to the Android Market, specifically being able to download movies and other stuff.

I've looked into this and I'm not sure there is going to be a really satisfying answer to this one.

The short answer is that aparantly we made some business decisions about which digital content delivery aps (netflix, etc) that we wanted to support on the K1 and which that we weren't supporting. We are supporting the aps delivered through our market.

Longer term, I think the more that we hear how people want to use the tablets (and what the marketplace needs are) the better we can include these in future releases or potentially revisit prior decisions.

I appreciate your feedback on this one, I know it is important to you.

Lenovo has their own app store, so they put a crippled Android Market app on their devices without disclosing it.

Yeah, sorry, got swarmed by students while writing that post. I ordered the A1, but have been looking at reviews and stuff of the K1, just to get a general quality idea, since there aren't any hands-on stuff except for snippets from IFA 2011.

I couldn't get a satisfying answer from Lenovo reps today; basically, their sales and customer support people don't really know, they're just saying, "There's nothing wrong with the Market, your order is fine, etc." Reps haven't been responding on that forum past the "unsatisfying answer." What a crock.

Sideloading ... yeah, you probably could sideload, it's just unstable, especially when you update. In my short experience, it works for a little bit, then you have to go find another apk and redo it all over again to try to trick it.

Update:
Really cute. Tried talking to another rep (the one I think placed my order to begin with) and he didn't seem to have any idea what I was talking about (threw him the link, too), but said "the full market will be on there." I asked for some sort of proof, a link to Google confirming it, something, but then the chat was ended. Their sales department/customer service closed, but there was no warning, nothing, and a long pause between my asking for proof and the time of closing.

So I may try to cancel first thing in the morning, but I'm sure they're going to pull some cutesy "can't cancel, special order, etc." stuff. From the site:
Quote:
Canceling orders

Orders for Configure to Order PCs usually cannot be canceled because the building process begins shortly after the order is placed. Orders for products that are listed as "In Stock" (including accessories, monitors, printers and pre-configured PCs) cannot be canceled after the order is placed.

To inquire or to initiate a cancellation of your order, please call 1-866-428-4465. If you are unable to cancel your order, please refer to our return policy for additional information.
Which makes it sound like you just can't cancel, because they want that lovely restocking fee. If they shipped it to me, sure, I can kind of - [I]kind of [I] - understand a restocking fee, but not if it hasn't even left the warehouse yet.

If I can have some proof from Lenovo, I'll be happy. If not, I want to cancel, without fees, and get a Vox before the coupon runs out.

As for Netflix being available now, I hope so, my I'm rather peeved at Lenovo right now for being misleading, and why should I pay extra when I'll have to sideload, anyway?

Well, Lenovo's out and so is the Fire (no card slot) and the Vox (same specs as Nook Color). Last hope is NC2 if and when it's released.

Wow I just had a feeling about these tablets with the way they are handling the release of them, I just would demand the order to be canceled. I never heard of a pre-order not being able to be canceled.
I would get the Vox instead.

I just bought a Coby Kyros 8" 8125 tablet off Amazon. I liked the screen, even though it was resistive, because it works far better with a stylus than any capacitive screen. Processor was adequate. Outside build quality was fairly good.

Unfortunately, the wifi was a disaster. Terrible range, wouldn't stay connected. Couldn't download apps because of it. The sensor that tells the tablet which way is up did not work well either.

The wifi was a deal-breaker, I am now sending it back for a refund.

I was hesitant to go with the brand but the 7022 has really good reviews. Perhaps you got a defective one? I would exchange it.

Edit: I've been reading a little on the WiFi issues on the Coby tablets. It seems that there's a time out on WiFi and that's why it cuts out. Supposedly the market has an app that can work around this called Advanced WiFi Lock Free

Hmm it seems the MID8125 has issues with memory corruption. Maybe downgrade to a 7022. It seems to have the best reviews and it's a capacitive screen.

FWIW, Oberon now has Fire covers for pre-order, including a couple with designs I haven't seen before ("Trees" & "Camelot").

NETFLIX FIRE!

The Lenovo IdeaPad K1 comes with Netflix pre-installed. A fix for a problem
has been posted by Lenovo!

Fix-for-Netflix

The cool thing is Lenovo also has DRM support for Netflix on the IdeaPad K1.
This allows downloading the movie to your tablet, instead of just watching
via streaming capability.

Here is an interesting link for Netflix on the IdeaPad K1.

Fire everywhere ... Kindle Fire ... Netflix Fire ... and just plain old-fashioned
WILDFIRE!

Rumor has it ....

The Lenovo IdeaPad K1 has access to both the Lenovo App Shop and the
Android Market. If you look closely on the screen in a lot of the pictures,
you can just make out the icon for the Android Market APP.

I plan to stop by the local Office Depot and take another look, since they
have one of the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablets in stock. Of course, I have to
leave tablet world and join the real world for such a scary venture
.

The issue is it doesn't have full access to the Market. This has been confirmed by Lenovo. But yes, there is a Market app installed. Read the Lenovo support forum for the device.

Seems like the issue is the K1 isn't on 3.2 yet. Once it's updated the Market problems should be resolved.

Quote:
Kinda good news. The K1's marketplace not having Movies is NOT a Lenovo issue.

Google made the decision for Movies to only work on 3.2 and newer.

The K1 is certified with Google, so that it not the issue.

We just need to wait for 3.2 or 4 to be released for the K1.
Read the Android Link below.

Thanks for the info Mark. :smileyhappy:

All is not what is seems ??!

Another confirmation to the Android Market APP mystery!

Mark_Lenovo, a Lenovo administrator, states that the IdeaPad K1 tablet
is a google certified device in the Lenovo Forum.

I'm going to put a bit of faith in the fact that all APPS will be available when I
receive my IdeaPad A1!
