DreamWriter, I also very rarely use the wireless, mostly do all of my up/downloading by usb. It has been 3 going on 4 days since the upgrade and at least going by the charge bar on the kindle , it still has most of its charge roughly over 90% by looking at it. In the past 4 days use would show less than 1/2 charge remaining.
Go figure? |

@DustyDisks: Not possible, Amazon updates are incremental, a bunch of patches, not a full copy of the system each time (the only thing that's flashed from scratch each time is the kernel, and if a kernel flash failed, you'd have noticed it, because you'd be the proud owner of a shiny paperweight ;D).

Mine went to 3.3 about 2 days ago. Not sure yet what that means. Have to look at it.

Adverts?
Hi,
My Kindle upgraded to 3.3 at the weekend, now my screensavers have disappeared and been replaced by adverts. Has anyone else had this happen, it is not the cheaper advert supported Kindle so I am confused? I haven't had time to read all the pages here so apologies if this has been answered already. J |

I sent them an email this morning, the response was - "I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I've checked your account and see that you've purchased the Kindle from retail store. Also, I noticed that Special offers for this Kindle is listed as "Country of Residence not supported." Please note that special offers is only to customers with a U.S. billing and shipping address. I can confirm that you won't receive any special offers on your Kindle. If you still face any problems, please contact the retailer from which you bought your Kindle 3G for more information." Ok, so will the adverts be removed, can I disable seeing the adverts somehow? The screensaver was visible until the upgrade so I dont understand how I am seeing the adverts now? I have asked him to clarify his answer for me, we'll see ![]() |

Jayd31, I don't know why special offers would have been enabled like that, but you may be able to disable the ads yourself. It's easy:
I hope that works for you. |

They wrote back, suggested restarting and if that didn't work then factory reset (tried both of these last night) and guess what, screensavers are back :-)
Thanks for the suggestions. |

Ok, I was a little early, I re-registered and once I had re-registered the adverts reappeared
![]() No edit button next to subscribed either, just next to my kindle name. |

Which Kindle model do you have? Does yours say "Subscribed" when you go to your account page? |

It's a Kindle 3 with 3G+Wifi.
Yes it says subscribed for special offers but no edit button. Just had a chat session with Amazon and the long and short of it was this is part of the 3.3 upgrade, they cannot unsubscribe me (even though I didn't subscribe) and there is nothing they can do, seems hard to believe, followed by have a nice day of course! I had no adverts before the upgrade so I have no idea where they have come from? |

I have not read of this happening before. As I mentioned, about a week and a half ago Amazon started giving non-SO K3 owners the option to subscribe to special offers, so maybe they're now enabling that automatically with the software update? That seems wrong to me. We paid a premium for the non-ad version and we should be given a choice—at least the choice to unsubscribe!
Did you purchase the Kindle outside the U.S., as the customer service rep wrote? Is it registered to a non-U.S. account? If so, it's even stranger that you'd be receiving the special offers. I'm not sure what else to suggest other than to ask for a replacement Kindle if you have had it for less than a year. A new one may do the same thing once it's upgraded to 3.3, but maybe not. I hope you'll keep contacting customer service until this is resolved to your satisfaction. Good luck to you! |
