Brand New Giveaway on my blog! Just leave a comment on this post.
"The Watcher" by John Brinling
(Official Blurb) Janet Stapleton – widowed, confined to a wheelchair, living in a remote Connecticut farmhouse - didn’t believe in out-of-body experiences until she had one and witnessed a brutal murder. The second and third ones were no less horrific. Her investigation into why she was chosen to see these murders soon has the demonic killer pursuing her.

Another Giveaway- "Scent of Jade" by Dee DeTarsio Just leave a comment on this post!
(Official Blurb) Julie Fraser is the least adventurous person she knows…until she hops on a plane to surprise her husband who's on a business trip in Costa Rica. Reeling from the discovery that her husband isn’t who she thought he was, she embarks on an unexpected rainforest adventure that leaves her not knowing where to turn, literally, or whom to trust. She knew she should have stayed home! Will a monkey, a Latin hunk, and a mysterious ‘love potion’ help Julie on her mission to find and forgive her husband?

Also, recent reviews of the following books:
"Bug Island" by R. G. Cordiner (middle-grade horror)
"Servant of the Lich" by Chris Wilmsmeyer (fantasy)
"Under Witch Moon" by Maria E. Schneider (paranormal)
"If I Were Your Monster" by Scott Nicholson (children's)
"Jimmy Stone's Ghost Town" by Scott Neumyer (middle-grade horror/paranormal)
"The Salbine Sisters" by Sarah Ettritch (fantasy with female emphasis)

Alright, I have a confession to make. That guy in the mask is not really my photo, just a book I've written. If you really want to see what I look like check out the front page of my website. And then have a look at my Library page for info on all of the ghost story collections, e-books, horror novels, and the one picture book that I've written. There's also a couple of stories to read, a couple of poems to read, a couple of articles to read and much, much more.

No ginsu knives, I'm afraid...

Thoughts on the Ebook Market

Hi everyone

I've just been posting over at Futurismic, a UK-based sciffy site, about ebook publishing.

http://futurismic.com/2011/03/28/no-...g-sf-novelist/

Quote:
I’m the publisher (or Amazon is; depends how you look at it); I’ve made the decision to publish the books; and I’ll make all decisions about the layout. I do have one trick up my sleeve: Flashback and The Amber Rooms will be professionally edited. The proceeds from Déjà Vu should soon cover that cost, which is a nice bit of bootstrapping.
I'm posting a link to it here in case others find it useful.

Best wishes
Ian

Nice article/interview - sensible, balanced and well thought through. Not quite the average experience, though - if I understand correctly, with Deja Vu you had the benefit of an expert editor, a paperback print run and reviews in the national press before you went the Kindle route. Plus, I'd guess, it's a good book.

Edited a couple of hours later...

Just been on Amazon and bought a copy (who says posting in forums doesn't sell books?). Only had time to read the first chapter so far, but, yes, well-written, fast-paced, great technology: a good book. And that's what really makes the difference.

Cheers, Ian. Mine's a G&T.

My desire to see a good indie speculative fiction blog has made me start one a few hours ago. The key part of it is, I don't want to be the only person doing the reviews. I want a good aggregate blog. So I figured, hey, why not ask people to email me their reviews and I'll post them? Hopefully I'll get some activity going before I have enough time to post up my own reviews.

So if you have indie speculative fiction to review, send them to Frida Fantastic!

I'm doing the fun Sample Sunday Cookoff again this week! You can read an excerpt from my chicklit comedy mystery, The Fashion Police, and discover Amber's mum's secret recipe how to make Marinara Pasta! The more garlic, the better - unless you're going to be kissing someone!

Happy reading!

One reason why you should post to BookBarista (blog entry)

There are many reasons that I can think of why authors, book sellers, and sellers of book related items should post an ad with us. But one of the “major” reasons is due to the flexibility of the site. What I mean by this is the fact that a poster can place multiple links to their product’s location within a single ad.

Here’s an example – let’s say you are an author of a book that is located on Amazon. That’s a strong location. But Amazon does not allow you to post all of the other locations where your book may be, such as at Smashwords, Kobo, your website, or a local bookstore. Amazon is not a classifieds site or a directory for your book. It is an online presence that is in the business of selling your book (a corporate bookstore). And it must isolate itself to create as many sales possible through its portal. Therefore no other website that sells your book will be welcome on Amazon. This is standard competition. And that’s healthy.

The beauty of BookBarista is your ability to offer customers multiple links to your book’s location within a single ad. If you want to garner more sales from your personal website or a local bookstore you can post only those links into your ad if that is your current marketing strategy. If you want every available carrier in your ad then you can do that as well. We welcome links. We allow you to offer your customers a choice when it comes to where they can buy your work. That is healthy competition at it’s finest!

Now is the time to quit dreaming and to get moving. How bad do you want to sell your book? Do you have dreams of quitting your “real” job and writing full time? Then utilize BookBarista and get your work out there. No one will do it for you. Make us a part of your book’s marketing plan and post an ad with us. There is nothing to lose. Can you go wrong with FREE? What? No way! Another reason to post with us… FREE! I need to stop now. I may go off topic and start blogging all of the reasons why you should post an ad with us. Suffice it to say, we are here for you
