Um, yeah, well.

It's an Intuos 4 size M. It has a bigger footprint and a smaller work area than the previous one, and a bunch of shiny buttons I will never use. I suppose I'll get used to it, but right now it feels like chalk on a blackboard, even the mouse.

The mouse is nicer than the last one at least (the old one was too big for my taste), and the work area has the same aspect ratio as my MacBook's screen, which will probably be a good thing once I get used to it.

Yeah, thats the same one I have, I just ignore the buttons. As well as ignore the Wacom Mouse....I use a standard mouse and just use the tablet for artwork...

Since this is what are you doing.... I'm focusing on my poetry since yesterday (took the day off) and after weeks (months??) of not feeling like I had a creative direction/outlet I seem to be once more pulled back to poetry .... will go with the feeling and do as the muse commands...

I haven't used the Apple mouse since forever, it's in a box somewhere in a tangle of unused cables. The Wacom mouse is not the best in the world, but at least it uses the tablet's surface, I don't need additional space for it. I suppose I could have bought an ordinary mouse and used it on the tablet anyway, but for some reason that feels kind of wrong. Anyway, I use the stylus most of the time so I don't need the mouse to be especially good.

You'll probably find the nibs wear out quicker because of the textured surface - I'm noticing that with mine (but then, I'm also using the stylus as my mouse). I read somewhere it's supposed to mimic the feeling of paper, but it really doesn't!

True, it is better than a flat glass-slick surface like the previous, so in that respect I think it's a bit better and having used mine quite a bit for the past year...not too bad on nib-wear...
