The owner of the lingerie store next door gives women a bad name IMHO. She's one of those women that acts all helpless and needs men to fix things for her.

Today she came into our store in a panic, one of the fuses had blown and she didn't dare to switch it on again (it's as simple as flicking a switch with the newer fuse boxes). The worst that can happen is that the thing switches off again if there's a short circuit somewhere, but chances are it switched off because a light bulb blew (which was the case).

She also thinks women are incapable of hooking up a telephone (inserting the cord into the phone and the other end into the wall socket), replace a broken lightbulb, when the clock changes twice a year my father has to go over to change both her wall clock and the clock that automatically switches the store lights on and off. She also thinks the council is responsible for keeping her bit of sidewalk clean of dirt and snow/ice (I know for sure that she's responsible for the latter one).

There are so many women, me included, that do try to do things themselves and not be (too) dependant on men. I feel women like her make life harder for women who do try.

He's too nice, when it has snowed he even sweeps part of her side walk, I refuse to do so. But he's too nice to women in general. Our rule is that we don't to repair-y type of things when it isn't consulting hour (twice a week) but he'll do little things for women who go into helpless-woman-mode, which annoys the hell out of me.

I'm with Freeshadow. Send her the bloody bill--don't ask your dad. Just send it. I imagine the requests for help would shut up tight as a clam pretty darned quick. I have zero tolerance for that "helpless female" crap.

This one is actually a winner here. It's an official Doozy. Thousands--thousands--of books have come through here, and nobody has ever seen that one before. We've seen pretty much everything, from using spaces to start a new line (for EVERY line in a 100K-word manuscript, mind you), to you-name-it, but that one...it's a real poser. For us to name one a "Doozy," it has to be pretty far beyond the pale.

The only thing I can think of is that it's an auto-convert or output from X, X being the (obviously) big unknown here. The known unknown. What the unknown unknown is, how the HELL did those pilcrows get there...and STAY there?

I debated for about 10 seconds putting up that famous animated gif of the computer user-guy smashing himself to smithereens on the keyboard, with this one, but I figure, the wall adequately expresses it to my fellow MR-geeks.

No, my father isn't single, she is though.

I think it might be a generation thing. My mother can also act as the helpless female with some things. And my father is just helpful, with women a bit more than with men.

If anyone, man or woman, expresses to me that they want, for instance, a plug put on something and that they don't know how to do it themselves I'm quite willing teach them, letting them do it with me explaining. If they don't want that they can come back during consulting hour to have it done.
