Sorry to hear you're stressed out, Shel.

And the attitude doesn't bother me one bit.
I get a kick out of women who need a stepstool to shake their finger in my face!

Cute, but incredibly stubborn. And going jogging with one can be more painful than it might first appear. That low centre of gravity can be a killer running downhill...

I just read Dead[ish]. My first reaction was "short film at Tropfest" (Cassandra Magrath leading the cast).

Cheers,

Woohoo!!! (wait, that's a good thing, right?) That's sort of how I pictured it while writing, too. Not all my books are 'movie in my head' type stuff, but that whole series is.

It was that comparison to American Psycho that got you reading, wasn't it?

I'd love to see DEAD(ish) as an indie movie. It'd be fun.

Tropfest, or Eat Carpet, or both. I mean it as a good thing, yes. . (I'm thinking of a very short film I saw on Eat Carpet once. It ends with something like "Well, you shouldn't have put me in the bin". Ha...you probably had to be there, but it reminds me of your book).

American Psycho isn't funny in quite that way. Its (the book's) humour is satirically black and ultra-cynically, quintessentially (post-) 80's...sort of like a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for the/us Miami Vice generation, where you might occasionally laugh, but mostly you shudder and kind of want to scrub your soul a little, or a lot. Dark-dark.

I'm not recommending it, but I'm not trying to dissuade you either (I've thus recommended it while absolving myself of the recommendation ).

Cheers,
Marc

Actually, "American Psycho" sucked rancid foot fungus.
The book, too.
Totally repugnant, pretentious baby snot on a waffle.

"Deadish" is high art.
Spiffy beyond comprehension.

ROFL!! Recluse, I know you didn't mean for this to set off my odd sense of humor, and of course you had no way of knowing what I'd been reading earlier in the day. But, well, this is the Llounge, and things tend to go a bit off topic here, and this is just a perfect lead in...

There's a sci-fi/fantasy author named Kelly McCullough. I'm a big fan of his books, they combine mythology with computers. Anyway, in his words, "So, back in March when I was really sick with the stomach virus of doom and awake in the middle of the night plus borderline hallucinatory, my brain started scripting out little bits of dragon diaries...." He posts them on his Facebook page.
It basically starts when the dragon hatches and goes on from there. Along the way, dragon acquires a cat. The latest entries in the diary are these (and now you'll know why your post reminded me, Recluse...)

"Learned today that fire breath + head cold + sneeze = flaming snot napalm. Cat is fine but not going to forgive me soon.
Cat is still VERY fluffy today. One little flaming snot incident and it's big-tail city. You'd think I started the litter box on fire intentionally. It's not like cat didn't have time to get out of the way. Maybe if I fetch a fish…

Learned another lesson about dragon colds. Toasted knights! They're wonderful for your throat—scritchy outside and gooey inside. Oh and great with tomato soup."

Shel,

Sounds rather hilarious - the sort of stuff I'd write if I was ever to become a writer.
