Some Kindle Daily Deals:

An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon - $2.99 - Link
Quote:
Aster has little to offer folks in the way of rebuttal when they call her ogre and freak. She's used to the names; she only wishes there was more truth to them. If she were truly a monster, she'd be powerful enough to tear down the walls around her until nothing remains of her world.

Aster lives in the lowdeck slums of the HSS Matilda, a space vessel organized much like the antebellum South. For generations, Matilda has ferried the last of humanity to a mythical Promised Land. On its way, the ship's leaders have imposed harsh moral restrictions and deep indignities on dark-skinned sharecroppers like Aster. Embroiled in a grudge with a brutal overseer, Aster learns there may be a way to improve her lot--if she's willing to sow the seeds of civil war.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab (aka V. E. Schwab) - $1.99 - Link
Part of a duology.
Quote:
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.
Luna: New Moon by Ian McDonald - $2.99 - Link
First in a trilogy.
Quote:
The Moon wants to kill you. Whether it's being unable to pay your per diem for your allotted food, water, and air, or you just get caught up in a fight between the Moon's ruling corporations, the Five Dragons. You must fight for every inch you want to gain in the Moon's near feudal society. And that is just what Adriana Corta did.

As the leader of the Moon's newest "dragon," Adriana has wrested control of the Moon's Helium-3 industry from the Mackenzie Metal corporation and fought to earn her family's new status. Now, at the twilight of her life, Adriana finds her corporation, Corta Helio, surrounded by the many enemies she made during her meteoric rise. If the Corta family is to survive, Adriana's five children must defend their mother's empire from her many enemies... and each other.
Blood Music by Greg Bear - $1.99 - Link
Quote:
This Hugo and Nebula Award finalist follows present-day events in which the fears concerning the nuclear annihilation of the world subsided after the Cold War and the fear of chemical warfare spilled over into the empty void it left behind. An amazing breakthrough in genetic engineering made by Vergil Ulam is considered too dangerous for further research, but rather than destroy his work, he injects himself with his creation and walks out of his lab, unaware of just how his actions will change the world. Author Greg Bear’s treatment of the traditional tale of scientific hubris is both suspenseful and a compelling portrait of a new intelligence emerging amongst us, irrevocably changing our world.

The "bounced" version of Number Of The Beast - will be interesting to read and compare with.

(It was bounced by Ginny, as first reader, as a "step back" and "only competent yard goods", before his carotid bypass surgery (in 1974). After the surgery, he re-wrote it into the current published version.)

The Devil's Rosary: The Complete Tales of Jules de Grandin, Volume Two by Seabury Quinn is currently $1.99.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5TVYPJ/

Quote:
The second of five volumes collecting the stories of Jules de Grandin, the supernatural detective made famous in the classic pulp magazine Weird Tales.

Seabury Quinn's short stories were featured in well more than half of Weird Tales's original publication run. His most famous character, the supernatural French detective Dr. Jules de Grandin, investigated cases involving monsters, devil worshippers, serial killers, and spirits from beyond the grave, often set in the small town of Harrisonville, New Jersey. In de Grandin, there are familiar shades of both Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, and alongside his assistant, Dr. Samuel Trowbridge, de Grandin's knack for solving mysteries—and his outbursts of peculiar French-isms (grand Dieu!)—captivated readers for nearly three decades.
Note: The 4th volume in this set was on sale several weeks ago.

The Door into Summer by Robert A. Heinlein has dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK. I read this one so long ago that I don't remember much about it. But I do think I remember something about better ways to take care of teeth in the near-future, which IMS should be right about now, and I wonder where those better ways are

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00G4PVKEK

Spoiler:
Quote:
A popular and enduring time travel tale by one of science fiction's all-time greats

When Dan Davis is crossed in love and stabbed in the back by his business associates, the immediate future doesn't look too bright for him and Pete, his independent-minded tomcat. Suddenly, the lure of suspended animation, the Long Sleep, becomes irresistible and Dan wakes up 30 years later in the 21st century, a time very much to his liking.

The discovery that the robot household appliances he invented have been mass produced is no surprise, but the realization that, far from having been stolen from him, they have, mysteriously, been patented in his name is. There's only one thing for it. Dan somehow has to travel back in time to investigate.

He may even find Pete ... and the girl he really loves.

Yes. It's just a shorthand way of saying "We know you've never heard of this author" .

Or in my case, someone to be avoided. (Although I have read some V E Schwab, and thought it OK (this was the alternate universe series, I haven't read her other books yet.)

It's the reverse for me, I've heard of V E Schwab but not of the others

A bit more on topic, The Last Days of New Paris by China Miéville is on sale on amazon.com for $1.99, available at least to the US and Sweden. Speaking of bad advertising, "I have not read it but i really liked some of his other books - DrLimu (author of this post)"

Also, Fairyland by Paul McAuley is on sale for £1.99 on amazon.co.uk and https://play.google.com for £1.99 availible to UK, Sweden, Denmark, Norway.

Edit:
There seem to be a sale on the S.F. MASTERWORKS series https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st...price-asc-rank. From what I've read I would say 90% of the books in this series are great, e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/More-Than-H...dp/B005OAHGE4/
