Paul,
Reading a declutter book does not in any way declutter a house. I know I have tried more than once. I just looked and I have 70+ feet of just cookbooks. That is 35 two feet long shelves. Not to mention several shelves of other books. |

At any rate, like I said, Dngrswife has her own collection of these type books and it does nothing to ameliorate the issue(s) at hand, amongst which is extensive clutter/too much stuff. On-topic, I have finished I Must Say by Martin Short. It was a good read; funny, poignant, and well-written. I have yet to dig through my tall TBR pile for the next read... I may try some scifi, as I just bought that Humble Bundle. But I have a lot of stuff that has been languishing in my hard drive for quite some time. |

I generally cook at least 4 times a week. Cookbooks and recipe collections are referenced at least twice a week. Sometimes one, sometimes more.
On topic, My favorite reference book is "Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook". It, Betty Crocker, and Better Homes and Gardens "New Cookbook" (the 1970's edition) tend to have the same basic recipes. |

My favorite reference for recipes is America's Test Kitchen Online. All recipes are extensively tested and are delicious.

I had one Betty Crocker which I used to cook everything when I was a teen.
My siblings and I are still fighting over who gets to keep it when our mom dies. Most of my cooking now comes from memory of those recipes or off-the-cuff. |

I cook suppers almost every day. I tend to cook out of my head most days, but I do use some recipes as well.
My go to cookbooks are: The Joy of Cooking Chef at Home (I've got two from him) generally easy and delicious Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home Mexican Everyday I do cook a lot of stuff without a recipe from whatever comes to mind. I'm more than adequate in the kitchen. |

I'm with Cinisajoy on this one. I have linear meters of cookbooks, in various shelves all over the house. They are one of the very few kinds of books I actually prefer in paper, though I am no mostly buying them as eBooks for my Fire. But the reality is that if I have it in paper, and it eBook, I'll most likely use the paper version.
Most of these cookbooks have been acquired over many, many years, and some I'll probably never cook out of again. But others, I pull out whenever I need to do a particular recipe, usually one I don't often cook, such as a duck terrine. (For that, I pull out the Bay Wolf cookbook.) There are a few I go to whenever I need an idea for a new dish. I'll usually cook the dish once, following the recipe exactly, and if I like the recipe, it becomes part of my regular repertoire and often gets modified after that first instance. Once it's settled into something I want to keep making, and I've tweaked it to fit my tastes/style, I'll usually add it into my own recipe folder. |

Just finished another Perry Mason novel, The Case of the Perjured Parrot by Erle Stanley Gardner. Very nicely done, but there was only one mystery to solve in this one, as Mason didn't do anything to put his license to practice law in jeopardy in this outing.

I just finished reading Storm Front, the first Harry Dresden book by Jim Butcher. I'm still kicking myself for waiting so long to read this book. I've owned a Kindle copy since Christmas Day, 2011, but only got around to reading it in February. SO! Now I have borrowed Fool Moon from the library and am reveling in Harry's world.

Agreed. Their recipes are usually quite reliable, assuming you carefully read their assumptions and agree with them. But I don't go to them to get Mexican recipes (Diana Kennedy or Rick Bayliss are more likely to get my nod there, or just make it up as I go), and in general for ethnic cooking, I'll usually at least try to find a more authentic source and ingredients. But that's not always easy (especially in remote Canada), so the substitutions that ATK uses are often a good way around the problem.

Best Mexican food on the Sunshine Coast is right here in our house.
![]() I've found that Amazon.com is great for ingredients that I can't easily get here. I usually have to be in Washington state every month or so, so just stock up then. |

Oh and for bouillon, it is way cheaper to buy caldo con Sabor de Pollo or Res than it is to buy chicken or beef bouillon. Made by the same company. Just packaged different. Note I make my own corn and flour tortillas. Back on topic, I am reading George Foreman's Big book of Grilling. |
