I envy you the beauty of the woods in winter. When ever I go into the woods, I feel as if I'm going into a church. Just so peaceful and so close to God. Add a bit (but just a bit) of snow, without sub-zero temperatures, and it's just about the only thing I miss living in the jungle.

Well, the snow is a rarity here but I feel so lucky that I have lots of woods for hiking within minutes of my house, courtesy of Sweetwater Creek State Park. I don't always hike but I drive through and snap a picture or two pretty much every day. It restores my harmony. :-)

After almost two weeks I still have a cold. Last night I didn't get much sleep because of a combination of a runny nose and a blocked nose. Tonight I keep getting sneeze attacks.

After two weeks it's either not a cold or a second cold.Or perhaps a secondary bacterial infection?

My sinuses have been trying to kill me for years, Rumpelteazer -- I think pdurrant is probably right. I'd have it checked out.

It was a bad cold combined with a nasty throat infection. Luckily I slept well last night, just half of my nose blocked. No runny nose at the moment, just the sneezing. Except for the blocked/runny nose and the sneezing I feel fine, not like I still have a cold. I'll see how it goes and if it doesn't get any better during the weekend I'll go see a doctor next week.

Then you had a cold, and now you don't. What you have is almost certainly secondary infection, quite possibly bacterial.

(When I have a cold, it's a week and then I'm better. With my wife she has a cold for a week, and then often needs to get an antibiotic to clear the secondary infection.)

The biggest problem is that during the day it's mostly the sneezing, when I lay down to sleep my nose blocks (when I get up it unblocks). Doctors in the Netherlands are hesitant to prescribe antibiotics for something that will clear on it's own with a bit of time.

On the plus side, I'm still slightly hoarse and today I keep getting compliments from customers that my voice sounds sexy, LOL.

Do you have Breathe-Right strips in the Netherlands?

My daughter said the other day that they taught her at school that you don't breathe through your nose when you sleep, only your mouth. My retort was "how do the breathe strips work then - they really help me sleep at night?" Couldn't really figure an answer to that one. They really do work.

The absolute best way to clear the sinuses is a neti pot or equivalent -- I use a nasal aspirator. Irrigating the sinuses with warm, salt water clears out all the places that can't be cleared by blowing or sneezing. It's painless, but it's still not the highlight of my day.
