I only got to those "advanced" machines after a few years or working with CP/M 8080 and 8086 S100 buss based system. Even a bit of MP/M at the end.
Ahhh, CP/M and S-100 buses. I managed to miss dealing directly with them (save for random CP/M encounters.) Instead, I got IBM mainframes and DEC minis, plus Apple IIs running VisiCalc which the PCs were busily elbowing aside.

The biggest fun part with PCs running MS-DOS was managing TSRs, and getting the load order right.

I still have my old XT clone, with a 10mhz NEC V-20 CPU, and AST 6-Pak card with a meg of EMS memory, and two Seagate ST-225 20MB hard drives.

I was a big fan of 4DOS, a shareware command.com replacement, and the MKS Toolkit, that implemented most of the Unix commands that made sense in a single-user, single-tasking environment. The selling point for me was a remarkably complete implementation of the Korn shell, with everything save asynchronous sub-processes. Installed in fullest compatibility mode, it was hard to tell without digging that you weren't on a *nix box.

The Toolkit has been replaced by Cygwin, but I still run 4DOS - it was released as open source, and I have it under FreeDOS on my old notebook.

I really can't see what's so appealing about a McD burger. In all honesty it is the WORST burger I've ever eaten in my life. Really tastes kinda like cardboard with ketchup on it!

I'm having it twice this week just because San Francisco thinks banning the toy in their Happy Meals (as opposed to, y'know, parents actually doing their job) is supposed to make some kind of difference. I'm 6'1" and 160-ish, then again we only get the chicken.
I know, you said "most", but most of the people we see at our McDs are either teenagers, retirees, or out-of-towners, none of whom seem to take up an exorbitant amount of real-estate.

I just realized how strange that is as I typed it.

The hippos to which you refer all seem to be found at the local Wal-Mart.
