I do have a copy of 1st to Die though that a friend leant me (along with the other two - she likes Dan Brown...) so if you think I might like this one better (please no first person narrative) I am willing to give it a try some day. At least its a quick read.

Tea Time for the Traditionally Built. Finally!
Two days ago I read the FATF paper on the money laundering risks associated with the football sector. This morning I started the book and about three chapters in Mma Ramotswe is being approached about a case to do with possible criminal (certainly suspect) activity around a football team. Spooky!

Just finished reading The Lions of Lucerne by Brad Thor.
I had never heard of Brad Thor before being reccomended by Cassidym in another thread as of similar genre to Vince Flyn.

Survivor of Secret Service presidential protection team searches for kidnappers who abducted the US President. He himself becomes framed and hunted by the SS and kidnappers.

Whilst the story line is nothing original, (superhero saves the civilised world, Thor, Flynn, Ludlum Child et al.), it is a story line I enjoy. At my age I read now mainly to be entertained, which this book most certainly did. Maybe a little verbose in some places and a little lacking in others but I would still rate it at 3 to 4 stars of 5.

Brad Thor is certainly now on my to read list.

I have read Along Came a Spider and I did enjoy it. Yes, the WMC series is first person. And that's not a problem. And yes, it is a quick read.

After "The Ugly Princess", I just finished the first book from "The Chronicles of Grimm Dragonblaster" by Alastair Archibald ("A Mage In The Making"). I really enjoyed it !
I just bought the second one !
I don't remember who on MR recommended it, but great thanks to that person !

Just finished _Max_ by James Patterson. I really like these books even though they are for young readers... and they are a quick read. Say what you want about Patterson writing fluff, but all his books (at least the Maximum Ride books) move very fast and are entertaining.

I think I might start on _Mistborn_ next.

Just read Nancy Huston's L'Instrument des Ténèbres (can't find the English title). Good novel, quite depressing though...

Just finished O. Henry Cabbages and Kings, and the collected short stories. Fascinating peep show into turn of century New York. Now back to Gulliver's Travels and Rising '44.

I read a lot of the O Henry shorts years ago in pbook and they're brilliant. May I recommend Sherwood Anderson as an author you might consider. His work is freely available through Project Gutenberg, including the amazing Winesburg, Ohio.

Now that the first book in the series is a freebie, I'm going to check it out. I tend to like YA fiction, so am anticipating a really fun read.

Do! I raced through all three in the series and would enjoy reading more. Maybe when Sanderson finishes Jordan's Wheel of Time saga, he can go back to the world of Mistborn.

The very first book I read on my Kindle was Baldacci's Stone Cold, the fourth in the Camel Club series. I had just finished reading a paperback of The Collectors and wanted to make sure that the first book I read was one that I was extremely eager to read. That way, I hoped that my evaluation of the Kindle wouldn't be biased by whether or not I enjoyed the book itself. It was a good decision; my only problem is that now I want the next book in the series, Divine Justice. I've also read the first 3 books in the Sean King & Michelle Maxwell series and enjoyed those very much.

I've read the first 4 chapters of Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) and need to get back to it so I can join the discussion in the other thread.

No clue when I'll have time to write my thesis with all this reading going on.
I think it might be a luxury to be taking a class that required me to read good SF/F. You should enjoy Old Man's War and if you snagged the freebie from TOR last year, you won't have had to spend any money for it. I have Perdido Street Station sitting on my kitchen table and I'm trying to decide if I'm going to read it.

Really enjoyed the freebie, so I bought Another One Bites the Dust yesterday. I went for the paperback, though since I'm going to swap it away in the Paranormal reading group at my book-swapping site. Will have to buy it for the Kindle if the others on my Amazon account read the first book and enjoy it. (I try to buy books for the Kindle that several of us will read and enjoy since I can't swap those away.)

Yes ... an excellent series. Another author who uses quilts in her books is Sandra Dallas. Alice's Tulips is set during the 1860s in the US midwest, The Diary of Mattie Spencer is set in the 1860s in the Colorado frontier, and The Persian Pickle Club is set in the 1930s in Kansas. Her latest novel, Prayers for Sale was selected as Barnes & Noble's 13th B&N Recommends pick, which catapulted the book onto the NY Times bestseller list. I'm going to have to put it on my wishlist!

Egads! It's been a long time since I read or posted anything in this thread.

Since reading A Betrayal in Winter, I've read 14 more books, 2 on the Sony, 2 on the Kindle, 1 audio book, and 9 in paper. I've mailed 7 of those paper books off to various members of my book swapping group. Currently I'm reading Offspring by Steven Harper, fourth in his Silent Empire series. Only 27 pages into the book and I'm thoroughly captivated!

Now reading Pandora's Star by Peter Hamilton. I finished the second volume of Fabre, which was less enjoyable than the first, so I'm not starting on the others right now. But this led me to the Voyage of the Beagle by Charles Darwin, which I'm enjoying so far. And of course still reading A l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleur.

I'm leaving for a one-week vacation soon, and I need to stock up my Cybook. I wish there were more French-language books available... *sigh*

Thank you - I will. I'm staying with friends in the Dordogne for for a few weeks at end-September so will load up the trusty ebook. How did I ever manage without my 505?
