Once everything was "cleaned up", we all decided to de-stress with a few ZCDs, and I could have sworn that Adrian said he would put it back from where he "borrowed" it for us from.
And let me be the first to thank you guys in the Star Chamber for taking care of that little matter. Sheesh! I kept my finger off of the "Report Post" button because I figured a few dozen other people were there ahead of me. And indeed, there was a fair amount of green text in those threads.

So thank you, most esteemed green ones...

As it happens, a friend is currently running for President of the American Atheists, the organization founded by Madelyn Murray O'Hare. (Ironically, he calls Atheism the "fastest growing religion in the US".) Fortunately, he's not a zealot, as the circle in which we both travel includes ordained clergy.

He doesn't see how he can replace Madelyn, and I told him he can't and shouldn't worry about trying to. His challenge is to take the foundation she laid and build on it, to take the organization to the next level. If he gets the job, and successfully executes his plans, he won't need to worry about comparison. He'll be firmly established as his own person and a worth successor to Madelyn, not a replacement.

I consider(ed) O'Hair a zealot. Robert Sherman isn't far behind. And with all due respect to your friend anyone who calls atheism a religion is already starting down the wrong path; I'm hoping he was being sardonic. Unfortunately, however, extremism begets extremism; I routinely vilify the ACLU, but its presence is necessary. I personally would prefer a live-and-let-live approach--say what you want during the Pledge, baseball games, or political speeches, or don't--but some states are willing to use taxpayer money to teach creationism in science class (as opposed to literature class where it belongs) and my own country often forces me to choose a side as opposed to going by both the letter and spirit of the 1st Amendment. If you're truly independent, your voice is no longer heard. Sometimes that's a good thing, other times I'm fed up with it...particularly the 1st week of November.</rant>

I just got back from going through a corn maze (or corn "maize," as they call it) with some of my young nieces and nephews. I thought we would NEVER get out of there. Could be because we let the 2-year-old take point.

It was fun, though.

Finally got below 90 F tonight - so I went out to shift some leaves. The combination of drought and record breaking heat in September has caused leaves to turn brown and fall off in droves! Not going to be a colorful fall season here.
Supposed to top out in the 70's F tomorrow - I'll believe it when I see it.

Weeding out all the useless Verizon- and Google-installed apps on my Droid X. Next is a secure WiFi/tethering solution that doesn't cost US$20 for 2GB of data. The more I mess with this thing the more I find out how much it can do.

@Marc..

Okay......I didn't realize what lie behind the "star chamber" and of course my asking why I wasn't invited was 'tongue in cheek'. Consider the request 'rescinded'

As for the other, I found many of recluses comments directed to me inappropriate....but tried to ignore most of them. Public messages on my visitors list, however, which he has since erased, were another matter, and
I called him on it. Everyone has their 'line in the sand', and he crossed mine.

If he chooses to leave on that account, so be it. If not, so be it.

Aww, and colorful leaves are the best part of the fall season! Well, and the cooling down of the weather

Hot here today, but that's to be expected. We haven't yet hit average-of-5-degrees-less winter yet...

That's okay. I abhor any kind of conflict, and tend to interject peace-love-and-mungbean diplomacy into things that are really none of my business. It is done completely absent of any judgement...only hope. "So be it" is certainly a respectable and wise philosophy to follow at times, and I do try to follow it myself (until I stick my big nose into things where it's not wanted ).

What am I doing right now? I just had my first pool swim of the season. The water was only 20C, and it was a spontaneous drop-your-pants-and-jump-in moment, but it was cool-and-pleasant, and allowed me to direct our bottom-feeder pool-cleaner, Zoidberg, to all the dirt and palms seeds and leaf-litter that washed in when I turned the fountain/waterfall/stream on. I feel cleansed (in body, if not mind).

Cheers,
Marc

Hmm... I don't often spontaneously drop my pants. I guess I need to work on that!

We had soccer games, pool, play practice, and now we're home. Time to read!
