Day six and I've just bought my second book of the month.

In my defence, it was the last one of the Vicky Bliss series that I was still missing, it had been on my wish list for a couple of years, I definitely intend to read it and it was only $1.38. So - and considering I'm still well within my no more than ten books a month (well, 120 books a year) goal - I think this was permissible, given the rules of this thread.

That sounds like the kind of offer that we resist other offers in order to be able to get with a clear conscience. Congratulations!

Let's see, day six and I've just bought...number eleven. Of those:

- Five are graphic novels that I've already read since purchasing them. Average discount was about 63%.
- Four are novels that I bought and read as dead-tree books, and have been wanting to get electronically; $1.99 each was as good a deal as I expect to see, and again represents about two-thirds off. I'll recoup even more of that if I ever dig out the dead-tree versions and sell 'em at the used-book shop.
- One is a free classic (Jekyll & Hyde) that I don't think I've actually read yet.
- One is a 3-in-1 omnibus that cost me fifty cents and is actually an addition to the TBR stack.

I'm not disappointed in myself so far.

Day six...

6 free

1 @ $1.99 that belongs to a series I already have the first few of (all picked up free or very discounted over the last 4 years) Did not pick up later books in that one even though they were also discounted. I have the first five or so, and there's no point in getting more until I get through those.

2 @ full price via gift card...part of a series I cannot seem to put down. I have two more to go after the current one, and enough left on the card to cover them both. Next book isn't available until May, and I will NOT preorder it at $12.99. I pledge to wait at least a week, since a lot of new releases are dropping in price at least briefly around that time.

All in all, I think I'm not doing *too* badly; I've passed up quite a few deals that were great prices, but weren't interesting enough to fall into the read-now category. I put one more on my wish list rather than buying, as I knew I wouldn't get to it soon. And I've done a bit of re-reading too (currently reading my eighth book of the year). Once I get past this one series, I need to go back to carving away at my TBR pile.

Nope. New author. Not on wish list. Yes, heavy discount. Resistance was futile.

Had to get those J. D. Robb Eve Dallas books at 1.99 when they were on the daily deal. Restricted myself and only got 4 of the 8 that were on sale. The master and commander book 1 also 1.99. Total sales amount $10.00... doing good so far.

Given how many books there are in the Eve Dallas series (close to 40 currently), ANY savings you can get is worth the purchase. Those are probably the only books I'll buy on release day this year...I'm not sure I can bring myself to wait for additions to that series to drop in price!

But $10 is pretty good so far, I think. Congrats!

I typically don't spend a lot on ebooks (limited budget & I try to mix them up with free books and library books), but I am a sucker for the 12 days of Kindle sale, and between that and the Kindle author deals, I've bought 15 so far in January (along with 9 in the last 2 weeks of December). It's not too bad when you consider the total cost is about £30 though (most expensive was a Lee Child book at £3.32). And from now on, apart from any good deals on books in my wish list, I don't plan on buying any more for a while!

An average cost of £1.25 per book is certainly very good. I hope you enjoy them all!

This is what I'm enjoying about ebooks, I spend more money than I ever used to on books, but I'm reading a lot more. And it's not just self-published or new authors. I read far better books now than when I used to have to rely mainly on library books and the odd used book.

£1.25 average is even better when you consider some of the books I've bought in the past month are by well known authors like Nora Roberts, Lee Child, Stuart MacBride, Sjöwall & Wahlöö & M.C. Beaton, they are certainly bargains. It's why I actively ask for Amazon gift vouchers for Christmas presents nowadays

I've bought 2 this year, 99 cents each, but read 3. So I am pretty golden so far.

Well, so much for my average. Book 12 ran me just over $10, as a non-promo-eligible new release. Still, I've been looking forward to it ever since I heard it was coming out (it's an unexpected sequel to what looked like a standalone book), and it's hitting my extra-short-list.

As to that last - I keep four distinct TBR lists, plus one challenge list. The Ent cemetery is made up of all the physical books I have yet to read, and my 2014 challenge list is an easy-to-get-at subset of those. Most of the 700+ books on my e-reader are unread, but I keep some favorite authors on there just in case I want easy access to them - so "unread and loaded" is the second list. Because so much of that content is part of one series or another, my shortlist is all of my unread standalone ebooks plus The Next Book in each of those series. Thus, if I'm not sure what I'm in the mood for next, I can just browse that list. Finally, my extra-short-list used to be the five books that I kept on my Kobo home screen, so I could put 'em back on that screen after sideloading new books. It's a bit longer than five books now, but it's still the READ RIGHT NAO list.

I totally agree. I'm fortunate that my library has them all in audiobook. I'm doing a buddy read with the JD Robb group on Goodreads. Hopefully, by the time we get to near the end of the series, I can pick up the end ebooks cheap. The wait at the library is usually months for the last 4 or 5 books due to its local popularity. Unlike some others, this isn't really a reread series for me.

I bought an ebook today. Only .99 but yet another thing on the TBR list. Again, not on my wishlist and a new author. oops.

Yes, that was against the rules. TBRs fill up with bargains that looked interesting at the time.
