I know the website but I would like pictures of owners.
The showcase is too far from the reality I think when I see my Blue PP

Now that I will exchange my Blue Pocket Pro against a new one, I wonder how is the device in white?
I can change of color and I know that the black and whie didn't have the same problem...
So If somebody can post pictures of his Pocket Pro in white I will be very please
Here's one for you.

I had links to some other pictures in my review:

Thanks Goldilocks. Here are some pictures. I tried to take them without the flash, so it looks like the screen shots might be a little blurry.

-- ok, so I need to read the FAQ again and figure out this photo thing. Here are links to the photos:

Flaky finish removed

I have one of the blue PocketPRO devices with the flaky finish. Since I did not intend to put it back through customs to get a replacement, I decided to completely remove the defective finish. I just rubbed some denatured alcohol over the finish, and let it set for a few minutes. The finish just started lifting off at the edges of the flaking areas. After several repetitions of that procedure the rubbery finish was completely removed from the front of the device. IMHO, it looks like the original finish was not properly prepped prior to spraying the new finish since it was very shiny under the new finish. As anyone who has done any kind of auto paint work would probably know, you need to remove the gloss from a completely cured finish before applying new paint, and that does not appear to have been done with this hurry up job. If anyone else wants to try this, there is one caveat from my experience. Do not be too aggressive rubbing the paint off on the buttons, because the button labels are only painted on and not embossed in. I have a few ugly buttons now. Otherwise the orginal blue finish looks quite nice.

Able to post a picture or two for us to take a look at? I'm kind of interested in seeing one cleaned up.

OK, here it is. Like I said, I messed my keys up a bit by rubbing too hard. There are also a few smudges in some paint areas because I rubbed too hard because of not waiting long enough for the denatured alcohol to soften the rubbery paint. I think that it *can* be done very nicely if someone is not as impatient as I can be sometimes.

One comment made in one of the threads, is that the pure white finish makes the screen look darker. If the brightness of the screen matters to you, you might want to choose another color.

Dave, I also decided to remove the coating versus sending it back. I have been flaking it off with my finger and lifting the flakes with cellophane tape, VERY CAREFULLY. Underneath it is smuggy from the paint application. Do you think the denatured alcohol will smooth the finish, or have you tried very fine sandpaper, or what?

I've gotton about 2/3 of it off the front with just flaking and scratching with my fingernails so it doesn't mar the surface.

Please keep in touch so we can get to a beautiful endproduct.

The denatured alcohol seems to be very good at removing all traces of the rubbery finish. I think that when I was rubbing too hard to remove the finish before the alcohol had softened it enough, that undisolved paint acted as an abrasive and marred the very shiny original finish.

I may just try that on the inside of the battery cover. I have some automobile paint finishing paper left over from an old car restoration project that I can try. If that turns out too rough, then I also have some plastic polish that I used to use to clear up the plastic windows in convertible tops.

I wish that I had your patience. I am fairly happy with the way mine looks except for the key labels that I smudged, but your slower process will probably look great in the end.

FWIW, I did open the case up to see if I could work on the front panel with the screen and keys removed, but they seem to be glued to the front panel. The main circuit board is easy enough to remove, but really does not have any advantage since the keys and display are separately connected to the front panel.

I'll pickup some denatured alcohol soon, in the meantime, I'm going to keep at it slowly. I think I got all the loose off, but if I keep picking at it, I'll eventually get it all.

I was thinking of making my own "skin" with a product called "gallery glass". It's a liquid "paint" for stained glass effects. My husband and I did some major projects with it. If you create the skin on a special "Plastic/silicon" grid then you can lift it up and place it on anything. I've had a couple of trial blobs left over from the project, sticking on my monitor for months. They haven't come off, yet will peel right off and replace whenever I want. I took a small cutting and placed it on the PEZ on the corner where the paint was all off. The blob has not come off at all and looks ok. The blob is blue and it disappears on the case. But when I do the "skin" I'll make a design.

I did the same, I am a little farther along than the picture shows. The scanner made the rubbery finish look really, really harsh.

This is true. When I first got my Pocket Pro and compared it to my Gen3, the background did look darker, but it's just an optical illusion. The darker colored housings seems to make the natural gray background of the eInk screen less noticeable. I think this is why the Bookeen Opus has the darker grey bezel around the screen. That being said, I'm very happy with my color choice.

The pictures I posted were taken under a bright full spectrum craft light (to avoid having my camera's flash go off). So like any other eInk screen, the better your reading light source is, the better the contrast of the screen will look to you.
