If I get into the $400 neighborhood*, I want the bigger screen of the Kindle DX.
Plus, I just love the integration with the Amazon bookstore.

*(I paid $199 for a refurbished Gen 1 Kindle (that was brand new)).

Bleh.... 7" :-(

Sony is segmenting its small-screen line too much.

Where is the 10" touch, with good PDF support?

Don't mistake the 7" with 7" diagonally. It's already been said that it will be in the area of 8 inches when measured diagonally.

Looks like the Daily Edition will be really good for reading publisher-supplied novel PDFs. All those 4x7 through 5x8 free promo PDFs should be very readable on that screen.

It doesn't look any better for textbooks, though, and those of us who make custom PDFs are not going to pick up yet another size to create, so mostly it'll be stretch/squish to fit.

Would this be wider than the DX in landscape mode?

Still, when talking about big screens it's usually for reading textbooks. And this 8'' ain't no PDF reader. Seems Kindle and iRex are still the only, unsatisfactory, players in that field.

Sony will also announce a new service, Library Finder. This involves close integration with digital libraries supported by Overdrive.

The above post was based on the limited information I uncovered in the days before the press conference. It may not be completely accurate.
I'm getting the 300, I don't need touchscreen with all it's inherent issues, I have no need for 3G or wireless sync, I'll put the books on beforehand and I'll rarely need to order something immediately, what I do need is a pocketable device and the 300 should fill that need.

Completely agree on that point. Kindle is still probably the best option for that type of reading, but still not ideal.

Yep, unfortunately, this about sums it up.

I actually much prefer reading novels on the Kindle DX, than on the puny Kindle v.2.

The DX is not for text books. Amazon blew that big time when they botched PDF support.

You prefere to read novels on something bigger than a standard pbook?

Even the K2 is bigger than the majority of pocket pbooks..

I don't think I'm alone in having hoped for a larger reader with the standard aspect ratio that I could use for the RPG PDFs I own.

I took the horizontal image and cropped it down to just the screen, then scaled the the image to reasonable resolutions.
On my quick crop job, the scaled it to several reasonable resolutions - the closest to any sort of standard resolution was 1020x600. I'll assume this means it will be 1024x600.
