Picked up a 300 (silver) today. Review is posted in this forum. BTW, the red 300 is indeed red, a darkish cherry red like thee 505, not pink. (The plastic protective strip around the edge is a bit pinker, but looks nice.) Last edited by DrMoze; 08-26-2009 at 06:47 PM. |

I can't wait to see these in person. Unfortunately the Sony Style store here closed recently and Borders won't have them until September according to a friend who works for BGI corporate. I have my red TE (I don't know if I'll get used to that; seems more natural to call it the 600) in the mail from Sony online. |

I had a look today at the 300 and the 600 at the local SonyStyle shop. I found that people saying the 600 has a glare problem to be way out of line. To be honest, Vizplex without the touch layer has more of a glare issue then the 600. The 600 is definitely better then the 700. It's blacker and sharper then the 700. But it's not as black or sharp as the 505. It's not bad overall. I compared the speed of page turns on the 600 to the 505 and it is sometimes the same, just a fraction faster, and sometimes noticeably faster. The 600's ePub does not support full justification. The dictionary is nice. Just tap the word twice to get the meaning.

Thanks for the review, Jon. More and more people who have seen the readers in person are reporting that the screen clarity on the 600 is much improved over the 700. I'll be heading to our nearest Sony story this weekend to check them out too. If the 600 is as improved as people are saying, I very well may take the plunge and buy it!

Can somebody who check them in person tell us if the screen appear whiter with the black PRS-600 (thus giving an optically better contrast)?

The background of the 600 is a little bit grayer. But it's still better then the screen of the 500. I'd say it's in the middle of the 505 and 700 leaning closer to the 505 then the 700.

I have tried 3 Sony stores - in Kitchener, Burlington, and Victoria BC looking to buy a Navy Blue 300, and none had one in stock. They did have silver and red ones, but I really want the blue

You are definitely in the minority with your sentiments - I urge everyone to take a look for themselves if you are able before buying - If you look through the new 300 600 forum you will find the overwhelming majority agree that the 600 does have a substantial glare issue, but to be fair it is better than the 700. The 505 and the 300 by far (in my opinion) have superior contrast and less glare/reflection. search the forums and I think you will find I am not alone in this opinion. Several people have returned the 600 for this issue, including myself |

Glare is obviously worse with the touchpad than without. To say it is better, you must define it as diminished by some arbitrary standard (e.g., "glare is lessened by being more diffuse") even though it is more objectionable in the real world.
Putting a relatively cheap touchscreen on top of a relatively expensive eInk screen is probably a technological mismatch for many users. The reflective properties of the screen are really damaged because incident light must pass through the touchscreen layer twice. And constantly providing interactive feedback reveals the poor refresh rate of eInk and negates the low power advantages. |

I think he bought it from the store. Actually I pestered him so much before going that now I am not calling him and asking the details. My husband informed me that uncle has bought it.
