Can someone enlighten us as to exactly the difference between the kindle and kindle_dx output profiles? Is it only image size?

Bug is opened for the Lit->epub metadata/cover issues:
http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/ticket/2617

One other item (from OS X); any time I go to a file selection dialog, Calibre defaults to not having any matching patterns selected, so no files are selectable. One must click the drop-down to select the default matching pattern, and then files are selectable. Gets old because two extra clicks are needed for every file selection.

Regarding splitting/epub->epub workflow, and HTML input handling:

I disabled both types of splitting, so epub output is working as well as can be expected for the moment. Now I'm looking for a clean workflow to edit this epub and run through the conversion routine again after marking chapters, etc. Conceptually I want to take the epub output, decompress it, edit it, reimport as oeb or some other filetype, then convert to epub again so that it's split along chapters.

As Calibre just seemed confused when I tried to specify an OPF file as an input I suspect zipped html might be the most convenient. However, I believe I'm seeing a bug/regression here. In .5 if you gave it an HTML file Calibre would grab the HTML and all the files referenced in that HTML and zip them up. .6 doesn't do this. Instead it just copies the html file uncompressed to the library, leaving all the other related files in their original location.

Output profiles specify screen size and dpi. It also specifies a comic size. It's useful for things like PDF output so it can generate a page that is exactly tailored for the device. The difference between the kindle and kindle_dx are just the screen size.

I'm having a problem with rescaling fonts when converting to lrf. When convering from PRC for example, it makes absolutely no difference what I point in for the base font size, the output is always the same.

Also having a small problem with line spacing at the end of paragraphs. Converting from a prc initially gave me huge spaces between paragraphs so i converted to rtf and used word to take away the paragraph spacing...i reduced the before and after spacing to zero. I tried to convert this file in calibre but it was seriously taking forever so i converted it back to a prc file using mobipocket. Using calibre to convert this file to an lrf file worked wonders and the huge gaps between paragraphs were gone. The file looked great on the in built reader. However...when i transferred the file to my reader i noticed a small but annoying glitch at the end of paragraphs. For some reason there is a slight gap between the last and 2nd last lines of each paragraph. The gap is very small only being marginally larger than a normal line space but it is definitely present in every paragraph. Any ideas?

I have the same problem, I opened a ticket for it too as directed.. Hopefully they'll get it sorted out. For now I'm back to converting my books with Book Designer again. Kovid answered me on this page of this same thread:

Hoping it'll get sorted out in the near future, 'cause it's hit or miss right now with the LRF conversion. I'd spent a couple of hours fiddling with different options but there was nothing consistent.

Hopefully if there are more people who notice it, it'll get fixed in the next beta. Kudos to Kovid for sharing and improving calibre, it's great!!

It worked...sorta. Now instead of the image being stretched to fit the width and squished to half the height, it's correctly proportional, but only half the height.

I'm guessing this is one of the bugs in the DX profile that was mentioned, which will be fixed in the next release. I'm eagerly awaiting it. =)
If you look at the image you will see that it is perfectly sized for the width if you were to turn the image 90 degrees. One of the bugs in the output profile was the height and width were flipped.

Just another heads up... the "adding PDFs" seems fine now. No idea why. Was repeatable every single time I did it, but now it's working fine.

But, I found another issue. Tried to use the recipe "New York Review of Books (subscription)" and got an error every time. I've already removed the beta so I can't replicate the error message, but it works fine with the current version.

What I do with a lot of PRC files is use the OEB converter to convert to their base components and then edit the HTML. But in this case, I think you'll have to edit the CSS as 0.6.0 generates CSS for the PRC file. Then you can convert without such big spaces. But before you do that, there is a command line option to remove paragraph spacing if possible.

Just a a general note, I should be back in action in about 36 hours. hanks for all the bug reports, but keep track of problems in a forum is impossible, so if I haven't responded to your post, please open a ticket and I will get to it in time.

Thanks. I'm afraid that's all pretty alien to me. Any ideas why i'm seeing gaps between the last and 2nd last lines of the paragraph though rather than between the actual paragraphs? Like i've said, it's very subtle but the line spacing is definitely a bit bigger between these lines.

Book

Hello Kovid;

Using Windows XP, Calibre 0.6.0B6,GUI version: converting to LRF

1.) The Cover picture is not converted any more (maybe I miss some specific command?) I have tried differnt settings but are not able to get the cover picture to be included in the conversion
If there is a cover in the orignal data. this cover is used.
If I want to replace the cover the orignal cover is still used
If i use the function " remove the first picture" i got an error
I am not able to insert a new cover or replace an existing one

2.) I really like the new feature "Insert Metadata on first page" but I get differt results:
One Book I converted gets Titel, and the word "Book jacket"
another Book i Converted i got title, author, series, series number, and again the word " book Jacket" but no picture
additionally I would really appricaite it if all Metadata was inserted, especially the "Comment" part

Smile Font problem in PDF conversion

Hello,

Is there anybody tried PDF font designation in 0.6b?
I used below extra css :

body{font-family:"Tahoma";}

But, seems not working properly.

Basically, I want to embed Korean font in PDF using Calibre, but none of tries works in my hand.

And, how to change base font size and Line height in GUI? I played with number, but working neither LRF nor PDF conversion.

Please give me an advice.
