If it happens under stock firmware then that's not a good sign, but I wonder if there are any other commonalities other than our hardware generation. When you did your stock test, was that before any extra fonts were sideloaded? Admittedly, I have a lot of fonts and that has given me a lot of low RAM problems in the past when it doesn't free memory properly with random processes getting killed off with no warning (it's why I could never run kfmon; the process would die and I'd have to reboot to get it started again), and given that this thing fixes itself after a reboot (thus freeing ram), I wonder if a process (ex. strickle or something) is getting killed off or can't start up again due to lack of ram? Just shooting from the hip here.

I have loaded about 40 fonts (50MB folder). I deleted the folder and expected them to be removed, but apparently Kobo dragged them to his database somewhere, because all the fonts were accessible to me from the menu when reading.
P.S. And how to remove externally loaded fonts in this situation?

The problem is nothing to do with calibre. FW 4.32 has a lot of changes related to font handling. I won't claim to understand the details but the result is that trying to make things better for the majority has made things worse for a minority (unlikely to be deliberate).

If you're trying to customise GUI font-family with nickel.yaml patches in fw 4.32 then you need to read my post in the 4.32 kobopatch thread

If you want to pursue the discussion please do so in that thread as non-patchers get upset if the main fw thread gets derailed by kobopatch issues.

Did you do a full power off/on after deleting the fonts?

I would assume that deleting the fonts and rebooting would rebuild the font list. Did you reboot?

He's saying he still encountered the issues without any patches (i.e. "pure firmware") so...

Yes of course . And shutdown and reboot and nothing - externally loaded fonts are on the menu and change the font of the book.

And the problem I described happens without kobopach. That's why I say that I tried with a clean firmware without patching and the problem remains.

In post #207, your screenshots 2 & 4 look like an unpatched Kobo, i.e. showing the GUI defaults Georgia and Avenir. The other 2 screenshots look like a patched device using nickel patches to customise font-family (unsuccessfully) which, as I tried to point out in the link in post #213, no longer work as they did previously.

You might want to try deleting the fonts.sqlite file in the .kobo directory. When I looked at it, it lists the sideloaded fonts and their supported writing systems.

Thanks!
Deleting the sql file solved the problem. Аfter deleting all the extra loaded fonts, there is no longer this bug with either the original firmware or the modified firmware. Tomorrow I will try to find out which extra loaded font is causing problems.
Thank you all!

Is your kobo nickel font in 4.32 the same as before (older fw).

I noticed that the kobo nickel font has changed in 4.32. The old nickel font looks like times new roman/garamond type. now it is ugly.

Can you show us a photo of what Kobo Nickel now looks like?

Odd.
In an epub the Kobo Nickel isn't like that! It's closer to Times Roman.
But I see that in kepub! It's almost like a proportional version of Courier, much plainer.

Kobo Sage with this FW. There is no secondary font option on epubs, only on kepubs, on the font Aa menu.
