Has anyone else been experiencing issues with calibre sync?
I connect to my server locally via content server and it downloads the metadata of all my books, but when I go to create a view (based on my #genre custom column that it can view..) it refuses to save. I also notice that when I have a filter selected, I will select all of the books from that filter (between 20-80 books) and it only downloads 10 of them. I've been doing a bit of reading, and I can't tell if it's because I have an onyx boox page or something, but it can be mildly frustrating! Just curious if anyone else has experienced these same issues. My use case is that I want to have my genre hierarchy saved into the directory on my boox (I go Fiction/NF, then fantasy, then subgenre of fantasy, and then folders for any series, Fiction.Fantasy.Epic Fantasy.Stormlight Archive for instance). But being able to only download 10 books at a time inhibits that! |

I don't know about using a view, but when I try and download all my unread books that haven't been downloaded I certainly don't get them all. Worse, when I try and list my unread, not downloaded books it shows the metadata for a few audio books that I don't have the epub version for. It doesn't show any of the epubs. Since I had already asked for them all to be downloaded this should be correct except many times when I go to read a new book, it still needs downloading and isn't on my device. Something is obviously wrong.

@zatka
On iOS, I just selected all 60 books in a category and they were all downloaded in one go - I’m connected via WebDAV. I think both problems could be related to the content server mode Edit: I will try it this weekend on my pc Last edited by Wiggo; 12-21-2024 at 01:05 AM. |

@zatka/jjansen
The following applies to iOS, Content Server, Library Format V2! First of all, the saved views worked flawlessly. I set up a test library with 215 books and a mix of epubs and PDFs and tried to download all the books at once. After several attempts, there were inconsistencies (10-20 books were missing), and it was only on the fourth new setup that it strangely worked straight away and without any problems - I don't know why. ![]() Lesson learnt: Download the formats separately in case of problems. In one attempt, it didn't download the PDFs at all because there were some duplicate formats and the respective epubs had already been saved. But as I already said, that was no problem at the last try. Unfortunately, I don't know if this will help you. Last edited by Wiggo; 12-22-2024 at 11:20 AM. |

I think I will look into webdav instead of content server. Library management can be so frustrating sometimes. Thank you for doing a test! |

Can I send books from Calibre to my android phone running Calibre Sync?
With Calibre running on my PC, when I start Calibre Sync, the PC adds a column "On Device" to Calibre's display, showing the books on my phone, so it's clearly connecting OK. If I right-click a book in Calibre and choose "Send to device", Calibre shows "Jobs: 1" and its spinner spins .. but nothing reaches the phone. Am I doing things wrong? I like to manage my books in Calibre and have used it for so many years; I used to transfer books via Calibre Companion on my phone (not available on a new phone unfortunately), but it doesn't seem to work with Calibre Sync. Do I have to go back to a USB connection? Thanks! (I'm new to Calibre Sync so apologize if this is a dumb question) |

Can someone point me to the location where Calibre Sync saves its log files? After a month of relatively flawless handling, I'm now running into a problem in which I get error messages on the screen stating "Failed to Download cover: DioError", with a bunch of text afterward, including "
no Route to host". I'm trying to troubleshoot what the problem is. I am connecting via Calibre content Server, all devices (1 Android phone, 2 android tablets) are on the same network, and getting the same error. TIA Ed |

Calibre Content Server IP and Calibre Sync
When I enter the Calibre content server IP in Calibre Sync I get an error message about it being invalid. It is copied from Calibre as
192.168.68.53:8080. I've used the same format to connect as a wireless connection with the IP address of 192.168.68.53:9090 and that works. My inability to connect via the content server is a fairly recent problem. I've tried deleting and reinstalling both Calibre and Calibre Sync. I can enter Calibre's IP address in a browser and see my books. I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions. TIA, BSewer |

If WiFi on both ends. Are both using the same frequency BAND (2.4 or 5.0)
Some routers will not cross bands. Some block peer to peer by default. Google 'How to ping from an Android device'. Enter the IP (but not the port part) Are you getting a proper Ping response? |

Yes, it is correct in principle. You have to go to Smart Device and then it should actually work. If not, the faq will tell you to restart. https://calibresync.bitbucket.io/int.../#smart-device |

Calibre "On Device" indication with CS connection
(just emailed this to CS help)
-=-=-=- I have successfully used Calibre Sync (CS) to connect to my Calibre library using the Calibre Content server, which allows me to download the entire metadata DB and perform various filter and download actions. I typically download only a small selection of books to my device at any one time. But, connecting this way does not change Calibre behavior to indicate which files are actually on my device. I also connected via Calibre Wireless Connect, which does change Calibre behavior, including "Wireless Device: Calibre Sync detected", and in the Calibre itself, a new column "On Device" appears. However, this column is completely blank, with no indication of what files are on my device. I have set the inbox directory to the same directory that I had downloaded ebooks using the Calibre Content Server connect method. When I connect as Wireless Device, there are no books that are displayed in CS. I would have thought it would display the files on my device? How can I connect CS to Calibre, in order to see in Calibre the files that are on my device? I am using Calibre 7.23 on Win11, connecting to Samsung Tab S10+, and an Onyx Boox Note2. When I used Calibre Companion, connecting with Wireless Device, I would have an indication in Calibre about which files were on my device, and could manage them from Calibre. -=-=-=- I haven't tried any other connection type with CS, and given that I've already corrupted my Calibre DB once when I accidentally put it on OneDrive, I'm not keen to do it again. Not sure why the Smart Wireless Device connection isn't working with CS...any suggestions? TIA Ed |

I expect the problem is that neither the CCS or Smart Device connection create or update the metadata.calibre file on the device that is used to track content on the reader.
On some devices (such as Kobo's) on a USB connection calibre also uses the devices own database that has been populated by the import process to list content. Sent from my Pixel 7a using Tapatalk Last edited by PeterT; 01-05-2025 at 12:51 PM. |
