thank you. it's certainly worth keeping in mind. of course if i could do it via the sort by recent for the whole collections list, all i would have to do is open 1 book from each collection, and i could have the last 20,30,40 collections in the order i wanted them starting on page 1 through to page 4.

Personally I create collections from genres, not from authors or series (too many of those, as in thousands).

Nope. It just means you need less collections to organize your eBooks.

So you ca8n see by author, by series, or by collections. Which means it's easier to find what you want because you don't have everything mixed together.

i can see why that would help keep collections to a minimum, although l prefer to use them. i can sort the entire collections list by name/number of books and date created, but unfortunately for me not by recent.

Can you sort collections by just author named collection or just series named collections? You cannot. But by not having series ad author collections, genre collections are much easier to deal with.

when inside a collection it can be sort by recent, but when i'm on page 1 of the entire collection list i have 3 options 1/ i can sort by name which gives me the list from a to z from first/last page. 2/ i can sort by number of books in each collection, so the collection with the most books shows at the top of page 1. 3/ i can sort by date created.

Ok but since you can sort author and series by recent which is your preferred sort method why not cut authors and series out of the collections which would make looking through your collections easier?

You might find you don’t need the recent sort for them and that like several others who have said they liked the go to page feature you can achieve the same thing with the current scroll bar.

Of course yes it’s going to depend on how much that culling of collections narrows down your total collections etc. but it seems like you’d get most of what you want (barring sorting collections and the page numbers being shown) and benefit from the improvements made between 3.19 and now.

it certainly is a very good idea indeed now i've (finally) just grasped/realised what others and you mean. (as you say) it would certainly/definitely cull the amount of my collections down drastically.

the reason the penny didn't drop more quickly is because i've been using 3.16.0 on my original Aura for so long/gotten use to it and that only as books an my collections, it doesn't have the authors or series tabs.

looking at the authors tab on my Touch which as the latest firmware installed, does in the authors tab give me the exact feature/option desired effective i want when set to sort by recent.

my apologies for taking so long to realise what i want was already there staring me in the face.

Having read further, you've picked up on what everyone was saying.

But yes, a collection of say, all Danielle Steele novels would seem pointless as you can find Danielle Steele in the authors tab and have the same results.

Same goes for series. I used to keep series in collections, but with updates in the firmware, it is no longer needed.

Yeah, I do the same. And I do use collections for 'meta series' Like say 'Dungeons and Dragons' and then 'Dark Sun', 'Eberron', 'Forgotten Realms'.

If you read Star Trek or Dr. Who books where the entire line isn't necessarily a single series, that is what collections is good for.

That already exists. Sort by title and stick something low alphabetical at the beginning of the collection name. I like a 0.

No need to order the rest of them manually, just a few top ones that get accessed constantly.

That's a clunky way to do it though. It could be done without the need to change collection names.

What is wrong with the later 3.xx firmware that you have to run a really poor old version?

Do you want a better reading experience or do you want a load of collections you don't need to clog our Kobo? The reading experience with 4.23.15548 is actually much better then it was for 3.16.x. I've run both and most in between. Things have moved on and the tiled home screen has many issues that need fixing. So Kobo came up with solutions that make the tiled home screen no longer needed.
