Shari
There are older Kobo that do not have Overdrive. So they need to have ePub from Overdrive. And for some of us with access to multiple libraries, it may be easier to get the eBooks using the computer.

I don't believe so. As I understand it, a kepub can be read as an epub by an epub reader. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than myself on this will correct me if I'm wrong.

That's my understanding as well. I know I can open kepubs with Sigil. I've not yet tried sending a kepub to my Nook, since all my kepubs live on only on my Kobo.

They could also just push the Kobo app which is on iOS, android, etc. to handle their ebooks.

Would it be super wise for them to lock down to their app? Debatable, folks here would likely not be fans but the average Kobo customer probably wouldn't care.

I haven't done this in some time, but when I did test KePub with ADE 2.0.1, I found that the formatting was not the same for the ePub and KePub. Close, but not the same. Plus the KePub has some javascript in it.

Given that KePub from Kobo has JS inside, I would say yes.

How many minutes of sleep is the equivalent power consumption of a reboot?

It’s also the power used in shutting down.

Without measuring the consumption of energy used by both on several different batteries and devices you’re not going to get a definitive answer.

However if you’re going to be using it there’s no point in turning it off. Sleep effectively halts battery consumption (note effectively some energy is always used) to the point that you are at absolute best likely breaking even on battery use but paying in time for your kobo to boot up.

And then there's the additional battery use to reopen the eBook that was last opened because when rebooted, you end up on the home screen.

Okay but if I can get an approximate answer like, would one day's worth of sleep be a lot more battery usage than powering the forma off immediately and then turning it back on 24 hours later?
If it's hard to get a specific answer, that's fine. But maybe a ballpark figure or comparison would be great.

Charge your device to full. Leave it sleeping for a week off the charger. Have WiFi turned off. At the end of a week note the battery percentage. You now have an approximate daily battery drain which excludes usage outside of sleep.

Charge the device to full again. Reboot. Keep rebooting until you hit the same percentage. Keep count of those reboots. Now you know how many reboots it’ll take to match a week of sleep. You should be able to math your way down to a day level maybe even half a day. I doubt you’ll get down to an hour because the battery level only displays in a full number so there’s some amount of rounding done by the system.

I doubt anyone has bothered doing this. It’s also likely that so many reboots might trigger the kobo to ask if you want to factory reset though I think that’s only the case if a reboot fails a number of times rather than succeeds multiple times.

Ps

Some times you just have to take it on faith that if you’re using the device on a daily basis you’re just better off leaving it on.

When the test is done, you also have to factor in having to load the eBook after every reboot since you end up at the home screen. So once the Kobo is rebooted, load the eBook to make the test even more accurate.

One thing I have noticed is how many books are available in the kobo shop but not in amazon. More and more.
