The one smells of cumin no matter what we try. I don't think it would really flavor the food, but we use the other for yogurt and cheesecakes and the like, just to be sure. ApK |

I've heard reports of it flavoring delicate things like cheesecakes and yogurt, though perhaps one also has to have a sensitive palate.

Whatever you do, don't go to the Instant Pot community Facebook group and mention you use or keep you pot on your stove. They are nice about it, but it is like throwing chum to sharks. (Sorry, watching shark week right now) I use mine on my stove, but don't tell them.

I'm on that facebook page. I've seen about 1 per week report and pics, of somebody accidentally turning on the burner and melting the bottom of their hundred dollar Instant Pot. That's why they tell you not to do that.

Yeah, we learned that lesson long ago with stuff thankfully a lot cheaper than the IP. Our ceramic cooktop LOOKS like extra counter space, but it ain't. Now we only store stovetop appropriate cookware on it.

you can put the IP on a round tray, such as pie or pizza pan, this way the bottom is protected when you put it on the stove top.
I usually put mine on the stove top only when it is cooking, but I have it in a round metal tray so it rests well on the stove top and it protects the bottom, the tray is almost the same size off the IP and it allows me to store the cord at the bottom, so it is also convenient when I have to move it, so the cord doesn't hang and gets caught, which happened before I started to use the tray. Anyone use the pot in pot method? What insert do you use? I've been looking for a round pan with a handle that as no holes in it, kind of like the steam basket but without the holes, but all I can find is pans without handles or ones whose bottom isn’t flat. |

I LOVE the "ekovana" set. Search for that word. It is two pots, which lid each other when you use both. Only one lid comes with the set. It has a marvelous "rack" that surrounds it and provides a handle to lift it. Even if you've only used one of the pots, the rack still works. I've even used it with OTHER pots, to provide a good lifter when the cooking is done. I was just showing my set to somebody at work (this moment) cuz I brought my lunch in it.

I like the pot-in-pot (PIP) method cuz I can cook smaller portions; can cook two separate items; can cook a more delicate veggie in the top pot, which gets less heat; and can only clean out WATER from the Instant Pot itself, cuz all the food was in an insert pot.
I cook PIP more often than not. But I am cooking for one, so I always want smaller portions. |

Oh the idea was to put a baking sheet on the stove for when I need more counter space like for a cooling rack.

I wondered!
People do talk about pulling the knobs off the stove, as an aid to "never ever ever burn the bottom of the expensive appliance". |

My next door neighbor (when she was still able to cook and the son was still around) would make her son take the stove outside at least once a year to clean it. She expected every inch to shine. |
