This whole thing reminds me of when people were up in arms about not having the regular screensavers if they bought their Kindles from Waterstones; it really doesn't matter
You've obviously never seen a Kobo and are thusly blissful with your Kindle.

I agree with those who claim that the top-down color gradient that plagues all Voyages is easier to live with than the left-right color gradient that all Oases suffer from.
I've not seen an Oasis in the wild but I honestly don't think I could handle a left to right colour change. I know my Voyage has a top down colour change, it's quite obvious, but it just doesn't bother me when reading. I guess my eyes adjust as they read down the screen.

Many people would agree with you on both counts. Maybe that's the tradeoff that Amazon makes when using capacitive touch vs infrared like Kobo.

No, I havent.

In what way am I 'blissful'? I can only assume you didn't comprehend my previous post, or else just read what you wanted to in it.

I have kindles and Kobos. I prefer the Kindle to the Kobo - it is whatever makes you happy at the end of the day.

Nonononono. Didn't you get the memo? We have to do what makes Kobayashi happy. Stop using that Kindle immediately.

I've a Kobo Aura (sold), Kobo Aura H20 (sold), Kobo Glo HD
I've read on Kobo devices for 2 years, and sorry, but the screen of the voyage is better for me.
I prefer the Kobo software for the library managment and reading stats, but for the pure joy of reading my voyage is the best eReader i have.

I had 2 Oasis devices that had very minimal color shifts that did not bother me, but the cones and shadows from the LEDs on the side did me in. I couldn't not see them when reading. My Voyage has a near perfect screen with a minimal color shift only noticeable at lower light settings. I'm sticking with the Voyage. It also has better contrast which makes reading more pleasurable for me.

I'm wondering how Kobayashi ever managed to read books printed on paper. Under natural light there are clouds and the paper bends near the spine so has strong left-to-right shading differences; under artificial light the lighting is extremely uneven and the colour temperature is far worse than sunlight... *any* lit Kindle has far better lighting than any paper book. If anything, for full verisimilitude the Oasis should have far more extreme left-to-right shading than it does.

I have two Kobos as well as my Voyage and I love them all equally but if I could only have one it would be my Voyage. It's not just the screen it's the whole Eco system of cloud storage and sync of non Amazon purchases.

I'm being made redundant soon that's why I wanted a 3G Voyage, my last treat before I start counting the pennies. For me it was a much better choice than an Oasis or a PW3.

I'm still loving my Voyage. I'm on my second (got the first one wet and couldn't get it to recover), and the color gradient issue was not present on either. Plus, the jailbreak has made it that much better!

I love my Voyage. That's the best reader I ever had. And I've tried many. Not just Amazon's, but I had the Hanlin V3, V5, Hanvon n518, Sony PRS 650, and the iRex DR800. I joined to the Kindle line with the 3rd generation. When the Kindle 4 (NT) announced, I've ordered it immediately, and used it happily, till the Voyage came out. I liked the PW, but the lack of page turn buttons always confused me to buy one. Using the Voyage, with the flush screen, 'semi-real' page turn buttons, the light sensor, and the built quality: it's a dream. I don't feel the need to change for the Oasis.

I love my Voyage! Have had it for a little over a year now and it's a great reader. I still use my Kobo Aura HD as well, but if I had to choose between that and my Voyage, my Voyage would win--I really like the haptic page turn buttons--I only wish they were user programmable, so I could program both top and bottom buttons for forward page turns--sometimes when holding the Voyage, my thumb will be resting where the back button is and I have to re-position my hand to turn pages. (I don't really need a back button--for the rare time when I want to go back, a screen tap or swipe would do the trick.)
The other thing that would make the Voyage better would be the ability to install my own fonts, and be able to adjust margins, line spacing, and font weight like the Kobo.
