Yesterday I have seen and played with both the iPhone 6 and 6+ in the Verizon store. Holding the 6+ in hand and it's design did not impress me too much. To get the phone that thin is some really nice engineering feat. I wonder though if the compromises to get there are a bit much. The part where the 6+ bent in the video (by the buttons) really does look super flimsy up close and personal. The golden color does look nice though and encourages to not use a cover which you should use with it.

I have a white/gold iPhone. I have a clear cover.

The article doesn't say that it was faked, it is just saying that is what some Apple fans are saying.

What you see in the video can be easily explained with physics. If the deformation is elastic, not plastic, the device would return to it's previous shape.



Unless you are suggesting that Business Insider takes things like this seriously:

The timestamps in the video show that the phone went from bent to unbent. Maybe he bent it so hard he bent time, too?

Or maybe he bent the phone using tools, flattened it out again, and then bent it with his hands once the aluminum had already been weakened. Or maybe he bent one phone, then later used another to film the earlier parts of the video because he didn't have enough footage. Admitting that would be to admit to lying, though, since he claimed that the phone he was bending was the one he carried in his pocket and which had a slight bend already just from being carried around.

Either way, the film doesn't show what it purports to show.

I've no info, but my guess would be yes - they've replaced a cracked iPad no charge for me before. Though they did check that it was in a case at the time.

They saw it was in a good case when I took it in, and asked me if it had been in the case all along. And probably also checked my long customer history with their company.

The guy pointed that his phone was slightly bent before he did any tests. That would be plastic deformation resulting from everyday use.

He tries to bend the phone by hand and it bends, and you see this at 1:58 on the phone, but if you keep looking at the video you notice that the phone becomes less bent. That makes sense because this is what happens when you have an elastic deformation.

He bends it again at 2:26 on the phone, and this time there is plastic deformation as well. This would be the part filmed from the top where you can see just his hands bending the phone.

You can see the elastic deformation happening in the video where he bends the Galaxy note 3, and also the statement that as he attempted to bend the iPhone back to its original form it cracked. The screen is more rigid than the metal frame so while bending it in one direction will result in a bent phone, bending it in the other direction will result in a cracked screen/frame.

The first video is clearly faked. Hard to know why. The second video seems pretty legitimate.

That being said, this guy is deliberately setting out to destroy a piece of equipment. It's no more shocking that the phone breaks than if he had dented a car door by taking a hammer to it, or if he had shattered a computer monitor by throwing it on the ground.

Actually his Point seemed to be that it is possible to engineer a device like that without the bending problem which he tried to show using the Moto X. Some testing lab will come out with a scientific test in due time and it is perhaps better to withold judgement until all facts are available to us.
