What we need is authors who don't sell the rights to their books without getting a good contract to make sure it is followed through and done right.

The percentage of books which are optioned vs the percentage of movies/TV shows that are actually produced is not a very high ratio. Lots of books get optioned, very few actually get made into movies/TV shows.

The rights for the In Death books reverted back to Nora years ago and she still has them for sale. Personally, I am glad Mel Gibson's production company couldn't decide on a script. I hope the books are never made into films or a TV series as I don't think the main characters would be easy to cast. Plus TPTB would probably water down Eve's character too much to make her more feminine and likeable. **Shudder**

Rogue (which was produced for DirectTV) and House of Cards (Netflix) are both out on DVD. The first seasons anyway. Spartacus was a Starz series and it's out on DVD. So it looks like these types of shows are only for their streaming services/cable channel for a limited time and then are made available for DVD. If they are successful anyway.

I finally finished labeling all of my books in my new Calibre library with where they were purchased. I had to guess on a few of the freebies as I just don't remember. I mostly went by my library at stores plus email receipts. I couldn't find my receipts for the Julia Quinn 2nd epilogues from way back when, but I knew I had purchased them direct from HarperCollins.

It made me realize how much I miss the heyday of Fictionwise. I also am amazed at how many stores have gone out of business: Fictionwise, Books on Board, Diesel, and now Sony. I also had one or two books each from various places back when you would pay and then they'd email you a link with the download I've been buying ebooks since 2000 and I much prefer the actual storefronts we have now

You make a good point about how they would probably ruin Eve. Probably Peabody too.

No, they're still around although they never have gotten some publishers back after Agency started.

Others I can think of that went out of business would be CyberRead, Direct Ebooks and PaperbackDigital.

And about selling rights to the wrong person, I believe this happened to Kelley Armstrong with Bitten. They are basically re-writing the series - she has no say, and she blogged about it. There are a number of series that I hope never make it to screen, because I don't think they could be done justice.

See I don't have a problem with that. It doesn't have to be cannon to a book. I like to see other people's interpretations. I mean look at Haven that is based on the Colorado Kid by Stephen King it's nothing like the novella but it's one of the best TV shows I have seen. Remember Smallville? It was based off the superman but it was no where cannon. It's still one of the most amazing shows I have seen.

I never expect a movie to be true to a book but I do enjoy them. I liked One For Money movie even if Ranger and Morelli are wrong and Stephanie was made to look competent.

I think it's neat to see what Hollywood can come up with. We know right now they need all the fresh ideas they can find. Just think of it as Fan Fiction that is what I do.
